hi, i have a yamaha rx-v1900 w/ some polk tsi speakers and a psw 505 sub. I want to listen to my 5.1 setup while listening to tv but it only gives me the L R option, when i first set it up it was showing all the speakers and they were shownas in (RED) on the reciever's screen, now they are yellow L R as stated. I went through the manuals but couldnt find n e thing. Can some one who owns a yamaha a/v show me the steps to do this, keep all my speakers on at all times?

Welcome to Club Polk Jose, do you by chance have a HD cable/satellite box? IIRC, most TV broadcasts are formatted in 2 ch. stereo and unless you choose a sound format on your AVR that will matrix the sound to the other channel, that will be all you get. With the exception of the HD channels, the are DD 5.1. Does it work in 5.1 in other modes, such as DVD/Blu Ray? I'll look into the AVR's specs. and see what I can find for you.

    Jeff is right!

But as a follow up question. How do you have your TV or Sat/cable BOX connected to your AVR? I'm assuming it's HDMI or Coax or toslink? Right!

Good point C, the connection is key as well. A little looking around on Google has led me to believe that is a more than capable AVR and you should be able to switch to a different listening mode to matrix the sound to the other "unused" speakers.

    You're right Jeff,

Personally I'm not a big fan of Yamaha AVRs..BUT the higher models are really worth looking at and listening to--starting with the 1900. I don't think you can do wrong with that!

On my 3900, those lights show the signal from your source. A 2 channel source such as most cable channels will only light up the L / R lights. You'd need a 5.1 source to light them all up. You can still listen through all your speakers by selecting one of the surround modes on your AVR.
