Sonus Faber X-Over Pictures
I just had to do it. After to listening to Fleetwood Mac Rumors while I was home alone for an hour I decided I will pull the lower driver and look around.
I was not sure I should but Jesse told me last night open them up and look around. Thats all the vote of confidence I needed.
Since they are in mint condition/not a scratch anywhere I had to be very careful and I was. Thankfully it was simple and I did the right thing by pulling the lower driver because the x-over resides right behind it and the very nice insulation. The insulation is so soft I had to rub my buddy on it for awhile.
Here are the pictures which came out ok considering my lack of skill and the close quarters.
I have a feeling the comments on the components will be interesting.
The smaller Bennic caps are 22uF by the way and you can see where the larger ones are 100uF.

SF use 1st order crossovers, which explains the large cap and inductor values. IIRC, they also use impedance correction(zobels?), which is why there is still so many parts.
The advantages of 1st order filters is that there are very little parts in the signal path, the drivers play over a broad frequency spectrum and that there is better phase tracking."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche -
One of the cleanest X-over boards I've ever seen. I'll bet you're plum giddy with excitement still!:D
Howz the first of May look for ya, Drew? -
If I am still alive it should be great

I just noticed I mis-spelled Faber, what a ***** I am. Very embarrassing too.

A little on first order slopes near the end of this page: http://www.troelsgravesen.dk/vocals.htm"He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche

Patrick C is my hero for fixing my mistake, thanks again.
Face/Mike Thanks for that link. I printed it so when I am in the tub I can study/read it.
Since the SF's are 1st phase what are speakers like my SRS2's or similar speakers? I know or think from a brief read that its not necessarily a good, better, best situation but am wondering. -
SRS 2's have 2nd order filters."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche

Interesting and looks great. I am surprised they didn't treat the X/O with Resin like the Amati:

I guess they only care for their TOTL X/O.I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie. -
You also don't see any electrolytic caps either.
Wilson and a few other OEM's also pot their crossovers."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche -
OMG they use Bennic caps and borderline industry standard resistors!!!....they must be the most awful loudspeakers ever to the immediately upgrade your xover crew....I'm suprised you haven't been run out of town like Frankenstein.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Know Jacksh*t about Bennic caps, is it really that bad Mark? or you're just being you?I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

They sound terrible with those awful Bennic caps!!!!!!!!!! But the speakers look awesome!!!
It is amazing how wonderful they sound just the way they are. I just wish I had more time on my hands like I did right before I got them. Ever since they arrived I have been going places . When I get back from Clemson next Monday I have nothing planned for awhile, thank God. -

I hope they use good pot  -

Its not about the cost though, its how it sounds.
Those are not the same capacitors but are from the same manufacture.
The ones in the SF's are Bennic BO3's -

$2.20 for those Bennic caps is still $2.00 than most manufactures are paying for their no-name caps. -

Fair point but those are not the caps used. I do not know what the Bennic caps sell for that are used in the SF's but they sure sound good, ok great. -

That is all that matters Drew.:)
