FXi A4 or A6
I have searched and found a similar thread to this topic title.
As in previous threads, i will soon be purchasing some RTI8's from a member on here and was looking into the FXi A4 or 6 for surrounds.Has anyone ever used both in their system and noticed a difference, and is it worth it to spring the extra $70 for the A6' that i have seen on Polk direct?
Just want to hear some opinions

Fly,
I have the RTi8s and FXiA4s. I don't truly have them hooked up, but I know you'll be happy with either pair. Just depends on your room size and what you're looking for.
I was able to "test" mine during the plane crash scene in "The Knowing" but my apartment at the moment just isn't quite big enough to have them hooked up all time.
I'm hopefully closing on my house by the end of the month and will get them truly tested there.
Are you going to be hanging these on the wall? What are the room dims...any info you can provide will help the users here help you out. I've been helped many times by these guys. -

Originally i have my tsi100's in front. Then i wanted to upgrade 200's in front and throw the 100's in the back, but never bought the 200's.Now i am soon going to have RTi8's in the front and thinking about some FXi's for surrounds, either A4 or 6's and keep my extra 100 for possibly a 6.1 set up for the rear center for dts es or Dolby ex soundtracks.Still debating on it.And yes they will be mounted on the wall.
Room size is a 13x15

What are you powering everything with?
Are you going to use these as surrounds or rear surrounds?
I think you'll be happy with the A4's, but obviously the A6's with be better.
Hopefully you can get a more experienced polkster to give you their opinion.
And...by the way...you'll be happy you went with the RTi8s. I've had mine for about a year and love them.
What center are you using? -
I had Fxi3 before the Fxi A6's. The 3's are the previous model to the4's and are plenty for a room your size. I was being anal and wanted all the same size drivers, which I had with the Rti8's, Fxi A6's and Csi A6. I also noticed a bigger sound with the Fxi A6's. I think the 4's will be fine, but I would try 5.1 before spending money on a rear center. I would recommend 7.1, not 6.1, if you want to go bigger than 5.1. There are threads in this forum that go into details on the advantages/disadvantages of both and in comparison of 5.1. Try 5.1 first and read up on the different configurations, then decide.Parasound HCA-2003A & 2205A

Side surrounds: Polk Rti A1's

The rest is TBD. -

Well if i watched a 6.1 es or ex movie with a 5.1 setup.would i be missing anything important without that extra speaker?Living Room Monitor 60's*CS2*FXi A6's*VSX 21txh*BD-P1590

IMHO, no. Like stated above if you want to go bigger than 5.1, 7.1 would be the next step up. Room size will dictate that, and to be honest I think you would be fine with 5.1. My room is about the same size as yours and I run a 5.1 with great results. A well setup 5.1 system will outperform a cramped up 7.1 anyday. As for the surrounds, either will work just fine for you. As stated above, obviously the 6's would be the "best" option.

My system is a 7.1. SDA 2's up front, CSiA6 center, A6's on the rears, and the A4's on the sides. Both the A6 and A4 put out nice sound. IMHO, the A6's are worth the few extra bucks, and will be a better match for our RTi8's. I've always gone for the best when buying this kind of stuff, cause I'd never be happy until I got it. I mean, why buy something, then wish you had bought the better one, then upgrade again a few months down the road. Of course that's why I am so poor I don't have a pot to P in, but I have great sound!Sunfire Theater Grand IV
