Are most of the latest releases of BD has 7.1 with TrueHD and DTS-MA? How about analog 7.1 source? what do you guys use to test analog 7.1 (particularly for SBL and SBR discrete)? Noticeable?

I am looking at the Oppo BDP-83 and so far has been relying on 6.1 at best (DTS-ES, in which SBL and SBR input are blended in).

TIA
I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

Unfortunately, US blu-rays are still mostly 5.1. There are some 7.1 like hellboy 2, but it's the exception. Blu-ray movies from China and Japan, however, often contain 6.1 or 7.1 mixes. When they are brought over, for some reason, even these existing mixes can get downgraded to 5.1. Sort of speaks to how entrenched 5.1 is in the US market.

Thanks Cheddar. It's interesting to note that most BD players today capable of doing 7.1 as the standards, yet it's not easy to find 7.1 materials.

That was/is the case with DVD's as well. I had a 7.1 AVR and DVD player, while the DVD's themselves were mostly 5.1. 7.1 is becoming more common with Blu Ray's, but 5.1 works just fine for me.

I think the only issue with analog, for my system, is I cant use the room correction in my processor. I thought long and hard about an Oppo as Bluray source, punched through my P7, but I think the Pioneer does a good job correcting my listening room.
