I play harp so, naturally, have a lot of CDs with harp music... none if it sounds that great though compared to a real harp, regardless of what I play it through. What were you looking for specifically?

yeah I know what you mean about the sound, but I'd still like to find some good harp recordings since hiring a live harpist to sit in my closet and come out and play on demand would be too costly :D

I'm spefically looking for hi-fidelity, any genre, harp recordings that I can purchase. Solo harp would be cool. Are there any jazz harpists? That'd be awesome. I know very little about music with harps as lead instruments, so any recs at all would be a big help. Thanks!:)

Well, my favorite classical piece with harp is "Five Variants of Dives and Lazarus" by Vaughn Williams, as it uses the harp in a lovely way and not just for glissando. Good sound quality.

Irish harp find something by Sylvia Woods... there are many solo artists... none that I would recommend based on sound quality.

Jazz Harp certainly exists, but is not something I have listened too much.

I am not sure if the issue is recording or playback, or just my knowledge of the instrument... but ever hearing a harp on a recording that actually sounds like a harp is tough.

Harpestry isn't a bad little sampler and it generally sounds pretty good.
The harp is a beautiful and beautiful-sounding instrument.

Falcon, I'll recommend my favorite harp recording, Nancy Allen Plays Ravel and Debussy . New York Philharmonic harpist Allen plays several short Ravel and Debussy pieces transcribed for solo harp as well as being featured with other performers in the gorgeous Ravel Introduction & Allegro and Debussy Danses Sacree et Profane. Excellent sound quality in a disc which can be enjoyed for a lifetime.
