Thoughts on my new SVS

Well, it arrived at about 5pm Friday, and a second person would have been nice to help un-box the thing. I was actually a bit surprised at the actual SIZE of it. After removing my old PSW-300, which for years I thought was a pretty good sub, I put the SVS in the same location. I ran Audyssey, then loaded up HBO's new series The Pacific. When the first artillery shot exploded, I almost jumped off of the couch. It was like getting punched in the chest. My old polk couldn't come close to this.

One of my friends was here yesterday, a fellow audio enthusiast, and said that it was the best sounding sub he had ever heard. I agree. It goes much deeper than the old Polk and simply blows it away in the power department. The 325 watt BASH amp is plenty good enough for an amazing sound.

Bottom line is this....it took me about 10 seconds to decide that I am going to be a SVS man for the rest of my days.

To anyone looking to purchase a new sub, as far as "bang for the buck" goes, I believe it is the best purchase
I have made in my home theater quest.

...Brother

PS... If the PB12-NSD is "entry level", I can't imagine what the PB13-Ultra would sound like.

    Thanks for the short review. I am looking to get a new sub soon and have looked at the SVS in depth. I am still trying to decide between an SVS and a HSU. I am glad to hear that there is a very noticeable difference between these subs and a entry/lower level Polk.

    Well I looked at Epik....only 1 model..the Empire is for sale. 799 +140 shipping.
    It sure looked like a nice sub, but was a little out of my price range.

    There were several models of velodynes that I looked at, but they had entirely too many models and features. The Velodyne I liked was a 15" but had way too many add ons and far less actual sub to justify $1000.

    All of this is my impressions only...but as of now I would buy SVS over any other based on my own experience.

    I received my SVS cylinder subwoofer last month and like you, I love it. I'm trying to talk the wife into letting me get a second one. I looked at the Epik subwoofer as well and I couldn't justify the price and space.

    If you want to make it better still? Place it on one of these. Well worth the cost. http://www.auralex.com/sound_isolation_gramma/sound_isolation_gramma.asp

    The gramma is a perfect fit. The NSD will appear to be floating.

    Well....

    since this site turned me on to SVS, which is arguably my best purchase overall (the 807 is up there, too), another $50 or so is no biggie. It is getting tiresome straightening all of the pictures, and picking things up from the floor after some "quality time" with the SVS.

    I forget who actually mentioned SVS in their reply to me, but I can't thank them enough.

    Today, I was playing Battlefield: Bad Company 2. My uncle came over and said the bass impact was so realistic (from my PB12-Plus/2) when I was firing that it was like a real heavy machine gun was in the room. I love my SVS.

    I have experience with these subs:
    * Celestion
    * Polk (PSW & DSW)
    * Sonic

    The dirty breakdown:
    * The Polk PSW350 and the Celestion (model escapes me, but skinny and tall) where comparable units. Goods subs for the price

    * The Sonic was a beast (loud) but didn't seem to have a very clean sound to it.

    * Polk DSW Micro-pro 1000 is not as loud as the Sonic but very close to it and an order of magnitude louder than the PSW350 and Celestion I owned, and it had the cleanest sound out of the 4 described here.

    I have only heard good reviews about SVS, so I will take everyone's word on that one. I'm curious how they stack up against what I'm familiar with? Opinions anyone?

    They are awesome, so awesome I maybe adding another one to my HT. I'm considering adding a PB 12 plus to my dual PB12/plus 2s. Imagine 5 12" woofers moving some serious air.
