1.2 4 or 8 ohm

I had some time today and took the 1.2's put them on the 4 ohm tap of the McIntosh 2105 amp.
The difference was big!! It seemed to play a little softer then the 8 ohm tap ( I thought it would be slightly louder but it was not) but, it was more coltrolled. the highs was a bit softer and not as harsh, the bass was more tight and just seemed to have a more pleasing sound. When I did it, I only thought it would be a volume change, not a sound change... Has anyone else noticed this? I do know many amps do not have taps for specific ohm's so I gues the questions is kind of limited on people who can or have changed it on their amps.
The tighter sound is what suprised me. Tighter all the way around. I used Lorna Hunt all in one day CD and the Cars Shake it up Mobile Fidelity version cd's as test cd's.
On a side note, anyone that likes cowboy junkies, pick up all in one day!! or ask me to burn a copy since it is out of print. Great test cd.

1.2's are closer to 6 ohm than 8 ohm. When the speaker's input impedance matches closely with the amp's output impedance, the best coupling and damping will occur. I suspect your amp and speaker's impedances are now optimized.'65 427 Shelby Cobra

Sounds good. I have a Mac 2100 and always wanted to try the 4 ohm option. Thanks for the post.

Sweet I am glad it was not just my imagination! LOL To me it was night and day.... I did not have to do extensive listening to hear a difference.
