I brought my Energy C-3 bookshelves in from the patio rig, and have had them on the main system all week, trying to acclimate myself to the "small speaker" sound in prep for the Fritz's. I am really impressed with these C-3's. I didn't realize how thick the mid-bass was on the C-9's until the smaller set was in place. I also didin't realize the effects of cabinet resonances on large floorstanders. I'm also impressed by their dynamic capanilities, and now I'm less worried about a monitor in a room this large. Of course the lowest notes were absent, but the satisfaction gained in imaging and clarity more than made up for that compromise. I'm beginning to understand the appeal of monitor/bookshelf speakers. I used to think "why the hell would anybody want small speakers?"

I was rockin' David Benoit's "Rebach" at insane levels yesterday, and those C-3's sounded fantastic; tight, clear, punchy. They never compressed or ran out of stream, or even hinted at distortion of any kind, but those little woofers were a slingin' back n forth like you wouldn't believe :D

I looked at Bev shaking my head and said..."I paid $125 bucks for those speakers, unbelieveable!" She agreed.

I'm going to like the change.

...and as a side note (please don't ask me to explain), real, purposeful built speaker stands work far better than bar stools...LOL

I have been running a pair of those on my living room system for quite a while hooked up to a Adcom 545II and combined with a Def-Tec prosub 100tl they sound fantastic and get louder than I will ever use.

They are certainly noteworthy, and definitely improve right along with the down stream electronics quality.
