Favorite vintage loudspeaker?

Hey guys, I'm trying to finish off my vintage rig and I've been searching for a nice pair of vintage speakers to mate with my Sansui G-9700 receiver. I have monitor 5 jr's right now, but they're too small. I've been keeping an eye out for a larger monitor series or SDA, but outside of Polk, what is your favorite vintage speaker? What should I look out for and pick up if I stumble across it? I don't have much experience with vintage stuff.

+1 to the Advents. They're plentiful, cheap & were a "landmark" speaker. Be prepared to re-foam.

A/D/S speakers are great, and can be had at a decent price.
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks

Yes floorstanding is ideal, and the price is flexible depending on what sort of deal it is as far as quality of speaker, but I really don't want to spend more than $150 and obviously the cheaper, the better. College makes me a po' boy lol

I haven't heard the 3500, but I heard the 2500 and didn't like them all that much. Might have just been the pair I heard though. I thought about matching Sansui's, but from what I understand their speakers aren't much to write home about. If I find a deal though, who knows.

These Sansui's were made for mowtown I think. Just like the Kenwoods with the same 6 speaker configurations. With an older warm receiver they do sound pretty good.
Not for imaging though, but for loudness they rival the Cerwin Vegas but with a more balanced sound.

ditto on Advents, ADS, Pinnacle and PSB's. All very fine older speakers. But don't forget the Polk audio Monitor 10's with peerless.....Now that's a great pair. The Monitor 7 w/peerless too.

Klh 17 are 'the' number one vintage speaker for me.

Want to use the power that Sansui offers? Find a pair of DQ-10's.

I'm a big fan of the big old Sansui speakers. I used to have a couple pairs...which were part of my first "real stereo". They had 14" woofers, and were 4-ways...running through an old Fisher Studio Standard receiver. Made for a great sounding setup.

I'd love to pick up another pair of old Sansui's sometime.

I've also had great experiences with Pinnacles, A/D/S...and of course, the vintage Polk Monitor's. I doubt I'll ever get rid of my Peerless Monitor 7A's. They're some truly fantastic sounding speakers, especially at the prices you can find them at.

AR9LS or LSi are super speakers. Beautiful too! Small footprint for a large tower speaker, easily driven properly with your Sansui, and SQ is amazing from the top to bottom of the sound spectrum.
They're NOT room critical like the 9 with the side firing woofers either.
They'll handle about any music too. Very versatile and easy to please. Hard to find though

If you can find them, RTR 300 D or RTR 600 D. Both are nice looking towers and sound pretty good a receiver.

Anyone ever heard of these: Renaissance Audio MLP-501? A pair came up locally and I've never heard of them.

And thanks for rubbing it in about the AR9 LSI's. I almost bought a pair but it fell through!

Found nothing at the thrifts, but I think I might keep an eye out for monitors. I really like these M5 jr's; they really have an open midrange and voice that I like. These are just a bit too small for my listening space. I think I would be happy with Monitor 7's if I could find a pair.

How about Ohm's those round cylinders sounded pretty good and were pretty efficient?
Their also one of the few like Polk CS the Ohm factory still supported (the last time i looked) and had parts and upgrades to their line of speakers. You could even send them in for a complete rebuild or upgrade.
