RX-N600 to PSW505

Good Evening,

I just set up my first ‘real’ home theater system and I’m having some trouble with it.

I have an Yamaha RX-N600 receiver. It doesn’t have HDMI so I ran my ps3 to it via an optical cable. The problem I am having is that my PSW505 has zero impact. It hardly makes a noise!

I tired to wire it form the front left and front right B, and it just barely makes a sound, so then I bought a $25 single plug cable to go from the subwoofer out on the receiver to the PSW505, still almost nothing.

Hooked up the right speaker cables and it made a little more, but still not much. It has power and I have the volume cranked on it. I tested the sub by hooking it up to the center channel and it worked fine then.

I don’t know what I am doing wrong, please help me out with wiring or putting the receiver on the right setting. None of them seem to do anything. I’m trying to use surround-enhanced mod to no avail.

Thanks for any help you may be able to offer.

    Welcome to the Club.

Are you using the sub out (next to the optical connections) on the AVR? Make sure you do not use the sub in - it's for the 5.1 input. Then connect the sub cable to the LFE unfiltered on your 505. Set the crossovers for your speakers through the Yamaha - I could help you with that but Yamaha won't let me view the manual without registering.

I found the manual. Under the basic setup make sure the sub is set to "yes".

Hope this solves the problem - if not, let us know.
