Google is your friend. If you look at the specs and/or reviews, that should tell you if it's a good buy. Also check audiogon or ebay to see if any are for sale to see if it's a good buy. I'd say a lil research is in your future.Never kick a fresh **** on a hot day.
Home Setup: Sony VPL-VW85 Projo, 92" Stewart Firehawk, Pioneer Elite SC-65, PS3, RTi12 fronts, CSi5, FXi6 rears, RTi6 surround backs, RTi4 height, MFW-15 Subwoofer.
Car Setup: OEM Radio, RF 360.2v2, Polk SR6500 quad amped off 4 Xtant 1.1 100w mono amps, Xtant 6.1 to run an eD 13av.2, all Stinger wiring and Raammat deadener. -
I looked up some reviews on the web and it is neither a very good or very poor choice. Not knowing much about the equipment you are going to be using it with or the size of the room it is hard to recommend to buy it but the price seems okay to me.

IMO if you really want a rocking sub I would suggest a Sunfire True Sub. I just bought one off of ebay for $440. 2700 watts of ground pounding power that will do great in a HT or in a 2 channel system. That is just my 2 cents. BTW I own two of them.Sunfire TGP, Sunfire Cinema Grand, Sunfire 300~2 (2), Sunfire True Sub (2),Carver ALS Platinum, Carver AL III, TFM-55, C-19, C-9, TX-8, SDA-490t, SDA-390t -
Thuffman is right if you're willing to go to 440...but that buy is pretty 'rare'...that's an UNusual price for a Sunfire of that class, thuff?
As for the Velo...depends on your room....don't let the specs 'fool' you. in a small to mid room that sub can pound! (might not be a Sunfire....but it's OK). And it's only 180...normal price is around 399 or so 'new'? So you want to know how OLD the sub is and what kind of shape it's in....I've seen those DPSs fail at about their warranty period...which I think is the same as Polk subs (3 year amp/5 years driver).
180 for a used Velo is an 'acceptable' price....but check out the questions above.
DPS is sort of like Polks DSW series. It's a well respected mid-tier mass market sub by Velodyne--and pretty much all they make is SUBS.

In order to understand if the sub will work with your setup, somebasic questions need to be answered first:
* What is the size of the room? What is the ceiling height (vaulted ceilings)? How many door ways does the room have and is the room carpeted or hardwood floors?
* What is the setup of your existing equipment? How much base (Hz range) does your existing L/R speakers put out?
* How are you planning on setting/hooking up the sub to your existing setup?Zone 1

I know that is is a bit rare for a Sunfire at that price. Though I bought both of mine for under $500 each in the last year. You just have to bid on a lot of subs.:DSunfire TGP, Sunfire Cinema Grand, Sunfire 300~2 (2), Sunfire True Sub (2),Carver ALS Platinum, Carver AL III, TFM-55, C-19, C-9, TX-8, SDA-490t, SDA-390t -
