Repo Men: Anybody see it yet?

It's in theaters. Stars Jude law and Forrest Whitaker.
Seems like a delightfully twisted little film.
The idea is that people buy artificial organs to save their lives from whatever heinous affliction concerns them. But the organs are quite expensive and therefore, in The American Way, you can purchase and have said organ installed on credit! WOOHOO!
But, people fall into arrears as always and the lending company sends the debt to collections. Now, you would think that something that is critical to the life of the borrower cannot be repossessed, it just goes against basic respect for the sanctity of life. But, then again, we are talking about banks here. Also, as with any given movie, you have to suspend belief in reality otherwise a plot about a lawyer suing heart transplant patients for the value of their organs doesn't seem nearly as interesting as it is morbid.
Anyway, it's getting mixed reviews. There are very few "middle of the road" reviews on this one. People either love it or they blast it for being "pedestrian" of "blase" even though I don't think they know what those words mean.
So, anybody see it yet? I might go see it this weekend.

I don't think they are the same. Repo: The Genetic Opera is about a disease that is destroying organs. The repossession is the same but the story is about the hero's quest to find the cause of the disease. I'm betting that the "secret family secret" is that the disease was made by the organ company to create the need and the hero's parents were somehow involved in that development.
Repo Men is based on a novel called "The Repossession Mambo" by Eric Garcia and the organ necessity is caused by people just generally being horrendous keepers of their bodies. So they buy new organs on credit and the repo dude goes and repo's the organs when the owners fall behind on payments. But the repo dude has a heart attack on a job and the company he works for plugs an artificial heart in his chest. He then has some kind of epiphany and loses his "heart" for the job. Then is ex partner is tasked to come find him and repo his heart because he doesn't have the money to make the payments.
Both films use the same background even though they reach that state by different avenues. But "Repo: The Genetic Opera" is about a transplant recipient. "Repo Men" is about the actual repo men. I don't think they are the same.
I will say that "Repo: The Genetic Opera" seems quite mundane and predictable made up of typical comic book fare. "Repo Men" seems it might be predictable in the plot synopsis but looks like a more interesting movie.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

It opens today nationwide and planning to watch it. Watching the trailer, it reminds me a lot of Road to Perdition, which I really like. Jude has those perfect trait to be a cold hired-assasin role.I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

I'll watch for it since I'm a former repo man myself...with cars not organs, although take somebody's car from them and you would think you ended their life.Yep, my name really is Bob.

Face, yes it was! I lost that job due to a back injury and while laid up in the hospital my roomie got to hear (upon his request) some of my "stories". He said way back then ('78 or so) I should write a book or make a movie. Damn!...should have listened to him!Yep, my name really is Bob.

Saw this tonight. It wasn't any kind of cinematic masterpiece but the acting was good and the story was compelling with a really sadistic twist at the end.
It's not necessary to see it in the theaters but I'd recommend it for some viewing.
Some warnings. There is alot of gore in the way of people getting cut open. It'll make your skin crawl and while I think it became excessive at times, it is critical to the main character's development. Without it, you would find his motivation to be cliche andheroic. But if you have a weak stomach, be prepared to cover your eyes.
There is a plot twist and it's not really clear what it is until the end. If you pay attention, you might pick it up before teh end. But at the end, it's going to be an "Ah ha" moment.
Also, I'm pretty sure, I may have misheard but I'm pretty sure that there is a robo vajayjay in the movie as well!
Now, I'm not saying that this is going to be the thrill of your life. Many of the plot devices are common but, they don't detract from the story. It's simply the typical guy in a bad position realizes the err of his ways and attempts to right wrongs by changing his ways. Typical Hollywood schlock but it is necessary to set up the climax of the story...which you will think comes much sooner than it actually does.
Bottom line, suspend your belief in reality and prepare to have your sense of logic challenged. But, as with any movie, don't go in expecting to have a life changing event but go expecting to be entertained. I was kept interested even though it ran longer than I thought and I almost missed Breaking Bad!
Oh and it's nothing like "Repo: The Genetic Opera". That was a steaming pile of donkey poo. I'm sorry I watched it.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

Good, fun, film. Decently acted, good effects, and a story that will have you shaking your head within the last few minutes. Oh, and a great soundtrack as well. Great rental!If...

Neat idea, horribly implemented. The gore didn't bother me so much as the story just being boring and predictable (aside from the ending, but whatever). If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

Interesting. I agree with Jstas about some scenes making my skin crawl. I was thinking this was just another regular Hollywood story relying on gore for impact until I got to the end and realize it was merely supplementary to the character development. Loved that ending. Without it, it's just a sci-fi slasher movie.
