Adding an Additional Sub

Thinking about adding an additional Subwoofer to my system on the other side of the room.

Can anyone tell me the proper way to implement?

Do I have to come out of my R/L Line Level preouts of my receiver and go to the sub or is it just as simple as splitting the signal from my Subout on my receiver and going to both subs. Or is it even more complicated?

My system consists of Polk RT1000i's as mains, CS400i center, F/X 300i's, and a PSW350. My receiver is an H/K AVR210.

Much thanks in advance.............

It looks like to me you do have the adequate equipment to produce the bass sound, unless you have a very...very large room, I do not think you need another sub...:)

Thanks for your input. I'm only considering it because one area of my room is right next to an open staircase leading upstairs and it doesn't seem to have as much bass response as my other viewing and listening positions.

Adding another sub does not necessary increase your bass sound and you may face phasing problem. Try to move the sub around; best place is to put it in the corner. If I'm not wrong, you have 3 subs with this system, 2 built-in with the RT1000s, and the SW350 sub, there should be plenty of bass sound here. I think Ken here @ Polk may be able to help you to fine tune your system. I still believe you don't need another sub, unless you really want to get it.

    Thanks.

Hopefully a little more positional testing will help.

Moving your sub to a better location, if possible, might help you out. I think that even if you add another sub you're still going to have areas in your room that have more or less bass.

I'm just guessing here really, but I think what you might be missing is the below-30Hz-or-so bass. In my personal experience, trying to get multiple powered subs to "get along" in the phase department has always been very difficult. Rather than more subs, perhaps you need a better sub. Something that will play down to or below 20Hz with some authority.

    seryam,

i would agree with the previous posts......i believe you should have enough bass with the equipment that you have. I have also tried to add another sub to my system and it didnot make alot of lot of difference in the bass department......i had a velo 10" and i bought another 10" and it sounded about the same for the extra money i spent....so i returned it, presently i have the 15".

However, it may work if you get a sub (polk sub 450,650,1200) that can go lower/deeper than the one you have now.

    dc. (my amateur opinion)
