I was reading a Musical Fidelity owners manual about their outboard dac and they mentioned to be sure your CD will pass a 24bit/192khz signal ?!
Shouldn't all cd player's and their digital outs pass this info. ?

I think what they were getting at was its ability to actually read the formats that easily produce this higher sampling rate i.e. DVD audio. A normal CD player can only produce a 16bit/44khz digital signal that may then be up and over sampled to 24/192 by the DAC. This does not mean it will sound the same as something that already contains enough information on it's own to produce this higher quality signal. Only a select few of the best DAC's in the world can produce that kind of fidelity from a 16/44 signal. SACD contains 10 times the amount of information that a normal CD has which makes it allot cheaper to make a player that can produce this higher resolution. Remember this is not the analog signal coming out of the RCA outputs that has already been converted by the players DACs, but the pure digital stream from the fiber optic link, Coax out or XLR that will then be converted by the Music Fidelity's DAC into analog. ahhh the science of sound, such a piece of cake."The only way to get rid of a temptation is to yield to it."
