New! - Denon DRM-800A

I just picked up a NEW Denon DRA-800A for a song. Apparently a church had bought a sound system back in the day (ca. 1991) and including this deck but tucked it away and never used it. I do church sound and it happens. It came in the original box and packaging and not a scratch on it.

I did a quick check to see if it plays and it does. My question is; given that this deck has sat unused for about 19 years, is there anything I need to do / check before I put it in service?

    Most likely the belts are going to need replaced.

    Good point. They may also be misshaped due to sitting the same position for so long. Maybe I'll do a burn-in with some tapes that I don't care about to see if there is any issue of slippage, breakage or instability.

    I haven't changed any belts as I have not been able to locate any. They seem in good shape anyway. After a good cleaning (lots of nasty film all over due to the foam packaging deteriorating) and some bench testing, I hooked the DRM-800A up to my main stereo. I played some previously recorded tapes and recorded one with this deck. All I can say is this thing is sweet. The tonal quality and the transient are fantastic. This is truly the best cassette deck that I have experienced.
