For those that don't know, the MMR*B*Q is festival-like concert that 93.3 WMMR has been holding since about 2007. It's held at what is now the Susquehanna Bank Center and there is only one stage but several side attractions as well as copious amounts of food and beverage. There is seating in the main pavilion but the majority of tickets sold are for the lawn area which is a HUGE, open amphitheater area made up of a grass berm. It is most definitely an interesting experience.
It's billed a s BBQ/Party and they have headlined some huge names in the biz. The entire station staff gathers for it and mingles with the crowd as well as some of the artists performing. It is alot of fun.
There have been several MMRBQ's so far. They started out opening and closing the outdoor season for the SBC. The first one opened the SBC the week before Memorial Day in 2007. The bands playing that one were: Velvet Revolver, Evanescence and Buckcherry with 6 other smaller acts. There was a second one that year. In September, they closed the center with a concert that headlined Three Days Grace, Seether, Breaking Benjamin, Collective Soul, Live, Silvertide and Jealousy Curve.
In 2008, they only had one show because it was the station's 40th birthday party. They featured Stone Temple Pilots, Staind, Everclear, The Hooters, Ashes Divide, Airbourne, and Silvertide.
In 2009 they only had one concert, citing economic concerns. So the late Spring show was the only one. They featured The Offspring, Papa Roach, ZZ Top, Puddle of Mudd, Saliva, Halestorm and Duff McKagan's Loaded.
Now the May 23rd show is the 2010 MMRBQ. they haven't said anything about a 2nd one in September yet. But the May 23rd show features Skillet, Fuel (first scheduled show with original singer Brett Scallions), Three Days Grace, and a double-headlining set of Stone Temple Pilots and Alice in Chains. There will likely be two more local acts announced as it gets close to the show date.
But this thing starts at around 12:30-1:00pm. Gates open at 11:00-11:30 AM. It will go until 11:30 PM when the City of Camden has a noise ordinance. Sets aren't the lame 20-25 minute spots that you usually get at a festival-like event. The set last 1-2 hours and you end up with between 6 and 9 full concerts worth of bands. They aren't shabby bands either. I've been to 3 of the 4 MMRBQ's and they were all a total blast! I have lawn seats for this one coming up as well and the headliners are some of my favorite bands. This should be another great show!
So if you live in the area, grab yourself and 3 of your friends a lawn ticket package. 4 tickets for $149. Not a bad price at all for 12 straight hours of freakin' awesome!
Oh and WMMR, one of the oldest rock stations in the country and named Best Station in the U.S. multiple times by Rolling Stone Magazine. You should listen on the Internet if you can't pick up the broadcast signal.
