Monitor 60 vs Monitor 70

I have monitor 60`s for my front, with a CS2 center. I just bought a PSW505 sub, (I really like the 505) rears are Monitor 40, with a CS10 rear. I have 6.1 system. I have been thinking about replacing my 60`s with 70`s. I have read that if you have a pretty good subwoofer, there is no need to buy 70`s.. any feedback i would be thankful. i just spent a year building my 6.1 the way i want it.. 1st time post.. Thanks.

Nice system and welcome to Clup Polk! It really depends on what your listening preferences are. If you listen to home theater most of the time and very little music, the 70s are not going to give much more than what the 60s will if you have a good sub (which you do). For music on the otherhand, it's a different story. I used to own both of these speakers. The Monitor 70 is far superior for two channel music listening than the 60. I was surprised how good the 70s sounded for two channel mode. They only get better when you add good external amplification to them. Hope this helps

Thanks for the reply. I really like the set up i have. I just bought the psw505, and i can`t believe how much better it is vs my psw10. I probably will play around with the settings and placement and see on it go`s. If a fantastic sale come`s along who no`s . I have a Vizio HDTV , about 1 year old, maybe the next purchase will be a new tv. Its not that i haight my my 6.1, its just a lot of fun researching , reading and looking into different speakers and comparing them . Just think a few years ago i bought a system in a box. Its just so much more fun biulding a system piece by piece.

Welcome to Club Polk over, this is a great place with lots of information. I haven't heard the 60's but I know I love my 70's. The 70's have one more driver than the 60's and a bigger cabinet, but not sure how much of a difference in sound those would make. If you are feeling overly froggy get a set and move the 60's to surround duty. The 70's won't be around much longer, so if you do decide you want them I would get snappin, lol. Dawg said he has owned them both and there wasn't much of a difference, so I would take his first hand experience over my best guess. Sounds like you are happy where you are at, and if everything sounds good to you, I wouldn't mess with it. Just my $.02.

Another welcome to CP. I wouldn't sweat it at this point. The set-up you is very nice.
As you've probably noticed, you're light years ahead of HTIB.
    Enjoy.

Could'nt be happier with my 60's. I use a CS2 with 50's for sides and 40,s for rears. Saved on buying stands on the sides. have a PSW 125 - all bought direct for app. 500 USD. Boxing day i bought a Pioneer 1019 [399 USD] for my music and theater and don't laugh I am using an old 1065 Marantz TT for my old Albums. Sound Sweet to this old timer

Well, I have also have the 60's, although have 30's in the rears. You didn't mention the receiver you're using, and I agree, it makes a difference. I'm using a Pioneer 1019 and play music mostly on the expanded setting (using all speakers). With the 505 it's awesome, and I don't think that replacing the 60's with 70's would add that much.

I love my 60's, and have the same wonder every now and then
(woulda/shoulda/coulda). I had the 40's as rears, that I felt was too much, went to the Sony's and now it is too little, so I will get either in wall or Monitor 30's or another set of 40's ( any excuse to buy more Polk, right ? )
Anyway, I like your set up, what I have, is two different set ups, 2 channel and a HT. Sounds like you may want the same ?
Eventually, my PSW10 is going to go with the 40's I relegated to the dining room.
Another thing I liked, and tried both ways, was bi-amping my 60's.
I would buy the same set up all over again, minus my receiver.
There, I would have gone Denon or Onkyo, and a 7.2 at that, also bi-amping.
And if you really have money, they have 9.1 now.
And actually, I am going to move right now, my R150's as surrounds and check that out, and moving the Sony's back to the back porch again for now.
Good luck in your decision, and welcome to POLK.

Yesterday, I bought windows 7 for 2 pc's, office 2007 for 3 pc's and an external hard drive from newegg. good deal on the office, as when 2010 comes out it is a free upgrade now to office 2010, and I got the three licenses for 119.95 on newegg.
I did see your post as I was trying to find this one again.

Hey guys Im wanting to buy the monitor 70's for 350 for the pair free shipping or the rti 10 i believe is the other ones. I am using a ARCAM AVR300 $2200 home cinema amplifier. I will be bi-wiring or bi-amping the speakers to make the power to them 240 watts high current watts. if you guys can get me promo codes when i buy them around april 18th to the 26th it would be of great help and appreciated thanks alot. you can email me at jeffmgrace@yahoo.com I have heard the polk speakers i like the old rta series but no way i can get them. I would like to get the best sounding speaker for my buck

krauley is right, you need to be a member to get the Emails. But, it's free and you will get them about 3 or 4 times a week. As for your Bi-Ampin/Bi-Wiring idea, they are two completely differnt things and if you will be doing it with an AVR, it will be a waste of time, IMHO. If your AVR puts out 120W (probably a 2 ch rating, so in HT mode it will be much less) it isn't going to be putting 240W by adding a second set of speaker wire from the Surround Back L/R terminals. The best way to add more power to any rig is with an external amp, do a search on Bi-Wiring and you will see I am not alone in this opinion. Good luck, and welcome to Club Polk.

I have a the AVR 300 and the monitor 70's. I have mine bi-amped. I have also tried wiring normally as well. Bi-amping makes a difference. I have also added an external amp and yes it did add more muscle and slam, however i found i prefered the overall sound quality of the arcam better so i sold the amp. That 300 of yours will make you smile.... it's a heck of a unit!

Guys - I found refurbished from Polk is even a better deal then Newegg beat there price for sure. I bought pair 60's / 50's / 40's / CS2 / PSW 125 in Cherry which looks awesome in my Home Theater for under $500. I am new to polk and I love it.

I am also digging out my old marantz and in the process of looking for an old set of SDA's for a 2 ch rig. Have a 6025 Marantz TT which is mint.

I have to buy the cs10 as it is the only center channel that will fit in my $500 Sony TV and integrated stand. The cs20 will not fit. Can you run the Monitor 70's with the cs10 or should I drop down to the monitor 60's? I should mention that I have a polk subwoofer so perhaps the 60's with the sub would make up for whatever loss of bass there would be from using the 70's alone. Yes? No?
