A decent cause for our troops.

OK, for those of you that read MMQB from Peter King on SI, you already know about Mike McGuire and his troops. But, if you don't, here's a run down.

The guy commands a whole bunch of guys doing the worst jobs in combat. From mine clearing to IED clearing to every other crazy dangerous and insane job. He's on his 3rd tour voluntarily and is only there because he feels obligated to his troops to lead them through these tough jobs. Ballsy dude.

But more so, Peter King has befriended this guy through MMQB-TE letters and he has a bit of a following.

Well, a few weeks ago, Peter King got together with the USO to get McGuire's troops some needed recreation/athletic/fitness equipment for the men in the FOBs. They call it "Five For Fighting". The deal is, everybody donates $5, it goes in to a pot that the USO draws from and they buying the equipment for the troops and send it over and set it up and such. Everything from video games to gym equipment, anything to keep them occupied in the down time and bring a little bit of civilization in a world far, far away from home.

So, I know money is tight at this time for most but all this is asking for is $5. They've already collected over $147K and have bought stuff for 7 forward operating units beyond McGuire's unit. They would like to keep this going and it's honestly not a bad idea.

So forgo that Starbucks Latte for one day or just look at it as the same cost of shipping some vinyl. You wouldn't think twice about the money to get a copy of DSotM or The Beatles White Album. This goes to help some people that are helping you and far too many forget about. They aren't there 'cause they want to be, they are there because they were asked to be. So drop 5 bones in the kitty. It's not much and it's for a good cause.

Being a member of the Military I can say that support from home, even from a complete stranger, is the best feeling in the world. It's bad enough having to be away from your loved ones for 4-6 months at a time, sometimes with no contact. Anything you can do to cheer up a Servicemember in times like that are appreciated more than words can say.

Not trying to threadjack or anything Jstas, but here is another good site for donations as well. I have personally met this guy while deployed to the Kyrgz Republic and he is amazing. His name is Bob Williams and he has donated most of his time since retiring from the Navy, and personally brings things to bases overseas. There is a link about halfway down on the left side titled "donation money" which you can click on to donate. They mostly use the money to pay for shipping. The website is http://www.ourtroopsonline.com/ and like I said, this guy is a fine example of a fellow American just trying to help.
