Ok guys, it seems I'm way over my head here and need some knowledge thrown my way! :p I found this AMP on craiglist and was wondering if you guys could help me understand what I'm looking at.

http://columbia.craigslist.org/ele/1643938265.htm

I found a .pdf of it's manual here: http://www2.yamaha.co.jp/manual/pdf/av/english/SepA/M-40.pdf

I'm looking for an AMP to power my TSI500s and I'll be using it primarily for music, then home theatre.

I've tried to browse the posts to get some insight but wasn't able to to find anything when I looked (so I apologize if some of what I'm asking has already been covered). Will you guys explain to me (in layman's terms) a class A and AB amp? What's the reason for 3 (A, B, & C) speaker inputs? And I guess more importantly is this an AMP that will improve upon my current setup (currently using a Denon AVR-3805 @ 120WPC)? Since I don't even know what to consider when choosing an AMP, can you guys tell me what else I should look at (or point me to a thread that already covers this sort of thing)? Thanks in advance! :D

Once again, sorry if this has already been covered. Thanks for the help guys!

If you can get your hands on one of these you would be set. The link you posted is dead and shows no product info. Also suggest you go with 200wpc as that's usually recommended around here giving you plenty of headroom. Suggest you go with 5 channel amp for future use also. Sunfire, Outlaw Audio, Parasound, Adcom, Rotel, Wyred 4 Sound, D-Sonic, Carver, are some popular names around the forums also. Check those out.

Also suggest you look at audiogon for good deals also

Some quality ICS from Audioquest or Signal Cable.

As for class differences this may help you

Sherardp, thanks for the advice! This is the listing: http://columbia.craigslist.org/ele/1643938265.html (looks like I left the 'l' off html so the link didn't work).

Money is, as always critical for me and I really can't invest 500+ dollars in an amp right now, but I though for $125 the yammie might be a good deal...
And thanks for the wiki link, I'll have to give that a good read. :p

The yammie is a decent deal for $125. It'll serve your purposes just fine. :)

So I just bought (and hooked up) the Yammie... and wow am I super pleased! I'm starting to get an idea of what sort of potential these 500s have. I never thought there would be such an enormous difference between the Denon and Yamaha at the same wattage. Haha, I guess I'm learning... best $125.00 I could have spent! Hooray Polk!
