Yesterday at work a guy was demoing a wah wah effects pedal with an electric guitar and it started picking up radio stations, phone calls, and some other stuff we could just not make out. I have never experienced this before and thought it was kinda cool but also kinda weird. Anyone else ever have this happen with anything?

I've had it happen with ungrounded or improperly grounded tonearm cables on a turntable.

My cell phone often causes interference in computer speakers, car stereo, land line phones, etc. Its not uncommon.
For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore...

Yep, cell phones and black berry are really devices to cause such problem especially as mentioned if gear isn't properly grounded. Shielded cables and balanced circuits are good to help avoid such. For example, we always warn conference delegates to avoid using using their cell phones and black berry during the conference as the interpretation system(s) might pick-up the signal and it will then be heard in the receivers (this can happen with both RF and IR systems). Some to note, those systems circuits are mostly unbalanced.

On the other hand, this is not likely to happen with the PA systems since they use balanced technology (unless there are a problem with the system). IE: At one time, we were picking-up a radio station when the podium microphone was activated (un-muted), as soon as I replaced the XLR (balanced cable), the problem was solved and the radio station was no longer heard). I strongly suspect their was poor connection of the system while the demo.

    Cheers!

My guitar amp picks up AM 560 out of Nashville Tennessee nearly all the time.

Granted...I've got a fairly powerful guitar amp.

My friends dads stereo used to pick up local radio stations all the time when the tuner wasn't even connected. The magnets on the speakers just kind of magnified the signal I guess.

I have never had any interfence with a guitar amp/processor. But I used to have a M&K subwoofer that'd pick up CB radio traffic.
