Ebay/Paypal

Why would a seller *require* you to have a paypal account to bid on their item?

I don't use ebay much, and only as a buyer so I don't know whether there's some big advantage to requiring paypal from buyers. The couple auctions I've won, I click the "pay now" link, and enter my credit card info and the transaction is done. I assume paypay is the middleman for this, so I don't think the seller knows any different, but maybe I'm missing something.

I guess it's another way of saying no cashier's checks or money orders accepted.

Sometimes it helps with the shipping address as it has to be confirmed if you have a Paypal account....

For a couple of reasons... one being that as a seller you have to offer paypal as an option and cant not accept it and it does offer some degree of security over checks and moneyorders that can be fake.

Well, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all :D

Security and recourse for both parties, end of story. Why do you care? It costs the buyer nothing.

i believe now a seller on ebay has to accept paypal. in that case its a lot less hassle for them to only accept paypal and not have to do accept ayny other form f payment. also...i just received junk from a spamer who had my ebay contact info. i wonder if ebay is now selling buyer/seller emails?;looks like it to me!

Seriously? Since when? There's been plenty of sellers who specify do not use paypal because they don't like it for one reason or the other.

Also, they require a verified mailing address to cut down on account hijacking and fraud.
