There's been quite a bit of twitter about these on the Hoffman boards, but I'm wondering if anybody has picked up any of these (all were released on March 9, 2010)

In addition to reissues of three studio albums (with short DVDs), there was also the release of Valleys of Neptune which apparently consists of tracks recorded in April 1969, but that never made it to official release. So I guess kind of a snapshot of work in progress.

Anybody heard these yet?

Interesting...I'm wondering how these will pan out SQ wise.

There have been some terrible releases of Hendrix' music SQ wise in my experience. The only good quality Hendrix recordings I've got are on vinyl from back in the day. I've got a few different CD's...and the SQ is really disappointing.

Speaking from experience with Hendrix recordings and from an old **** that saw him live a half dozen times...There were NO quality recordings to speak of. The live performances I saw were actually that bad from the soundman/board. Still good entertainment
It was just Hendrix and seems he had hands on control of everything played and released up until the OD.
Re-engineered and a complete make over is the only way that you're going to get decent sound. Then again....we're always at the mercy of the engineers

Well, I just heard a single from Valleys of Neptune on the radio (how often do you get to hear a "new" Hendrix tune on the radio?). I think it was called "Crying Blue Rain" or something like that. It kicked @ss -- so I am definately going to pick this one up. On first listen, I liked it as much or more than many tracks on three main studio albums released during his lifetime. Here's hoping its representative of the other stuff on Neptune.

Do let us know what you think, esp. of VoN, which has by the way reached #4 on the Billboard charts, that is, the highest point of any of Hendrix's nearly three dozen posthumous releases since "The Cry of Love" (1971!). I'm sure this and the others will sound sweet on vinyl.

Word has it that a Beatles-like Anthology is in the works, perhaps to be released this fall marking the 30th anniversary of Hendrix's death.

I pre-ordered Valleys of Neptune, and First Rays of the New Rising Sun on 180g vinyl months ago, and received both double LP's last Sat. I really got a kick out of telling people I just got a "new" Hendrix LP :) So far, I've only had the opportunity to listen to side A of VON, which includes the title track, along with new versions of Stone Free and Bleeding Heart. I own every Hendrix release on either vinyl or CD, and thus far I have to say the SQ is outstanding, especially compared to most of his available recordings. I hope to get a chance to listen to the rest over the weekend. If you're a Jimi fan, these 2 are "must haves".

That is great to hear. By the way, there is still (according to fairly well-substantiated hearsay) supposed to be quite a bit Hendrix material that has not seen the light of day in official release form but that most likely will be put out over the next year or beyond. In addition to the anthology project I mentioned above, I think the word on the street has it that there could very well be at least two additional full-length albums coming forth. Don't quote me because technically we're still in the realm of speculation, but it does look promising. And if Eddie Kramer did a better job with VON and FROTRS as your post indicates, then this bodes well for the sound quality of future releases.
