Weird issue with my new tv

So, with my old Mitsu DLP, when I hooked it up to my computer to watch movies it worked great. Full-screen was actually full.

With my current tv, it seems to have issues with the "full" part in full screen. It uses most of the screen, but there's a 1 inch black bar on all 4 sides of the tv that the picture doesn't fill in. This is in addition to the letterbox on most movies.

Has anyone had this issue before?

My new Panasonic has a few format choices, full, just,hi fill & zoom. Using the zoom setting usually fills the screen area, getting rid of the black bars and doesn't crop out too much of the picture. Have you read your manual all the way through? Might be a fix in there somewhere.:)

If you use the zoom function, you loose a bit of detail. Do you have an auto function that automatically adjust the screen size to the content played?

Mine does not:( I'm just using the zoom for a while to avoid the black bars during the first 300 hrs of break in on the plasma display. I don't really see much detail loss in the zoom mode anyway.;)

Computers are great for seeing what your TV does because you control the resolution and it's easy to see if parts of your screen are being cut off when your icons get clipped. However, sometimes graphics cards have options and settings that may have to be adjusted too. When I got my new computer monitor, I noticed a border around my screen. Not only that, but the text seemed fuzzy and I knew there was a scaler at work somewhere. I had to dig into my graphics card settings. It had defaulted to some sort of 80% setting where it was shrinking the 1080p picture. Make sure your graphics card is sending out the proper signal first. If it is, then a pixel by pixel mode on the TV should show a full screen.

U didn't say what the new TV is. On my Pioneer Kuro, there are several chices, as with most newer TVs. Yours is probably set for raw display with no overscan. See if yours has a setting that gives somewhere in the neighborhood of 4 - 10% overscan. That should stretch the picture to fill the screen without the zooming & stretching distortions.

I have an old 32 " tube Sony,( still 1080P or 1080U capable can't remember ), but I too have an issue, depending upon my source. I just live with it.
Too, you are in the same boat, depends on your source.
My receiver upscales everything to 1080P, and the computer display, like cheddar says, you can control your scaling, depends on your video card and any aftermarket scaling programs. I like www.majorgeeks.com website for goodies on the puter, as well as cnet.
How do you like the Mitsu ?
I was thinking of one of those, but heard you have to buy a 100 dollar bulb every year or two.
Also to help more, like Scottfox says, which specific model ?
