I need to upgrade the ram in my wife's laptop. Right now she has twin 512MB DDR2 SDRAM, 667 MHz DIMMs. I'm looking to upgrade to a minimum of a single 2G 800 MHZ DIMM or possibly go ahead with 2 for 4G of ram. Next step will be to get rid of Vista for Windows 7.
Dell wants $66 each...not a bad but would like to do better. Anyone know where to pick up some quality DIMMs at reasonable prices?

I've been ordering memory stuff from them since 2001 (I think). Fast and reliable, along with great price.I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie. -

Check out Crucial and Kingston brands.
Frys.com (sometimes has good deals after rebate) and Newegg.com (I think you will get charged sales tax in TN).
If you upgrade to Windows 7 (32 bit), you will only be able to see 3 GB, I believe. 2 x 1 GB, IMO, is probably plenty for Windows 7 unless you do video editing or heavy photoshop type stuff. Windows 7 (64 bit edition, which is actually also supposed to be more secure than the 32 bit edition), can see all 4 gb of ram.
I would say about $40 is fair price for 2 x 1 GB PC800 DDR2 SO-DIMM right now.
You could also check out eBay if you find a reputable seller you are comfortable with. -
i've had good luck with sticking to DELL.
and if the price is close then go for it.... -
Definately go to crucial.com have had excellent luck with these guys!!Testing

Sorry, not a good idea, the reason I go with crucial is they always have the right memory for a particular store brand computer, it will do a scan on your computer too if you want...Testing

Win7 32 bit will see all 4 GB of ram but can only use just over 3 (3.14 if I remember right) I'm in the more ram the better camp. I'd put 3 GB in, if not 4. It doesn't cost all that much more, but that's just me."The secret of happiness is freedom. The secret of freedom is courage." Thucydides
