Newbee needs helps setting up speakers and reciever

Hi Folks

I decided to go mostly "All Polk" with my speakers. I brought myself an Onkyo SR607 and my speaker line up is as follows

Audio Monitor 70's
Center Channel : CS20
Sub : PSW 505
Surrounds : 4 Klipsch s3's ( side and rear )

Here are my questions

1. If i decide to go with banana plugs, would i have to solder the wires or is it as easy as plug and go?

2. Would I need an amplifier as most of my speakers are 150w max and the Onkyo SR607 spits out only about 650w in total. ( Is that what is called Bi-amping? )

3. Now that monoprice is not accepting orders ( looks like they have some problems with their site ) , are there other places that I can buy 14AWG wire at.

4. What are decent amplifiers to go with the speaker / receiver setup I have?

Appreciate your help greatly in this. I feel like I'm lost at sea with all the terminology. I look forward to your guidance

    1. I got the GLS banana clips that do not require solder. http://www.speakerrepair.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=black_chrome

    2. As far as an amp, the 607 does not have pre outs to connect an amp. I have a similiar setup and not having an amp works for me and sounds good. Now would I like a new receiver with pre outs and an amp? Yes I would but it can wait.

    3. Bluejeanscable.com is a great place for speaker wire. They only take paypal.

    4. See answer for 2.

    WELCOME TO CLUB POLK!

The 607 can power that speaker set fairly well. Ms are pretty efficient (SO are the Klipsch for that matter)....they can use more power, of course. But in a small to medium room you'll be OK for now! You'll get MORE POWER if you run a 5.x system only!

I am about to look for some proper wire for this setup. Any recommendations as far as size etc!

    Fronts: Monitor 70's maybe a 14?
    Center: CS2 maybe a 14?
Rears: Monitor 40's about a 50foot distance or more from receiver
    Sub: PSW505 special cable?
    Receiver: Onkyo TX-SR807

Oh I have the Panasonic TC-58S1, witch have some sort of audio output in the back. Do I go from there to the receiver with some special cable? Or via HDMI from TV to Receiver?

Lots of questions for a newbie sometimes.

My Surrounds are ~ 35ft for each run from the amp using and 14 gauge wire is fine. I doubt the a 50ft run is going to present a problem. Honestly for the cost of 12 AWG just get a 100 ft spool of CL2 rated (for in wall) and use it for everything. Then you don't have to worry about it. You know that you will have a heavy enough gauge regardless.

You will go Source->Receiver->TV. Check out Partsexpress.com for HDMI cables.

I have the Onkyo 607 and the monoprice.com regular wire should be fine.

There is no advantage with the banana plugs. Do a search on the forums. I remember there being a study on it. Don't waste the money! :)

I think I have narrowed it down to this wire. Is this sufficient you think?

Hey sid, welcome to Club Polk. Most of your questions have been answered already. but I have a thing or two to add. Any reason why you chose the CS20 to run with the Monitor 70's? Or was that a typo. The CS20 is actually the timbre matched center for the TSi line, and the CS2 would be a better chioce, not to mention much cheaper. I have a set of TSi 500's that I ran up front for kicks to see how they would do, and in all honesty I did not care for the way the 500's and CS2 sounded. Timbre matching your front three is very improtant, and I would recommend you look into the CS2. Also, as many above me have stated, the 607 doesn't have pre outs, so adding an amp will not be a possibility for you unfortunately. That's why I always recommend an AVR that has preouts. Good luck and welcome to Club Polk.

Either 14 or 12 AWG will do you just fine. I would run all your sources (Blu Ray/DVD, Gaming system, HD Cable box, etc from the units to the AVR and then one HDMI cable from the AVR to the TV. The subwoofer is a "special cable" it is simply called a subwoofer cable, but can be bought at any audio store, including Monoprice/Blujeanscable either of those sites would be my recommendation. Good luck and welcome to Club Polk.
