Well I picked up a Nakamichi Dragon cassette deck and a Carver M-1.5T amp today for $250.00 now if I only had some cassettes :p

REGARDS SNOW
Well, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all :D

....more like a MAJOR score... Pics or it didn't happen.

I picked up a Dragon cheap and flipped it for three times what you paid for everything.

Let me know if the 1.5 doesn't float your boat.

Why? The only cassettes that sound any good are the good CRO2 or Metal tapes that you record yourself. As a format, it was really only good for dubbing vinyl or live radio broadcasts. Have fun with it though.

I hate you!:p:D I had a Dragon back in the day and had to sell it due to hard times. That is one of the things I most regret doing in this hobby.

Dan, I have a forty gallon trash bag bulging at the seams with prerecorded as well as home recorded cassettes. A lot were recorded with dbx encoding so you could use one of your dbx pieces to play them. Interested?

+1 on that. I used to spend hours recording my own on Metal tapes and would even ad my own touch with a 120 band qualizer. I did a recording of DSOTM with my own touch to it and it sounded incredible. I believe I still have it buried somewhere.

I used it to copy all of my 45 records onto tape. Now I have them all downloaded to my pc & copied to cd's.

Sorry no pics till next week :) I like the Carver actually. Intial impressions were very detailed, lots of punchy bass but not as tubey sounding as I would have thought.

I may well be give me a week or so to see how good this deck sounds before I commit to going back to cassettes :)

The Dragon is the best cassette deck ever made.

Cathy, it's fun just to stare at it..........a work of art and real bada** piece of gear. It intimidates just sitting on a shelf :).

I'll second that! The Dragon is a really great cassette deck, probably the best ever made and as said above it really looks cool.

It is a very nice cassette deck. PERHAPS the best ever made.

I have cassettes already and you don't. They can be very hard to get, so if you need my address to send the machine just ask.

George, you could probably find a less expensive player for your books-on-tape that would work just fine.

I'm curious about something...how could a person that owns a Nak Dragon not know he has what is arguably the best cassette deck ever made and sell it for peanuts? I'm happy for the deal you got, but what was that guy thinking?

These two items were bought at a pawn shop after the time had elasped for pickup. It's odd how they price things, some items that have little value they want a mint for, other nicer items very little. For example I seen a Pioneer F-91 tuner for $40.00 sitting right next to a 80's Sony black plastic tuner for $80.00 and a pair of Bose 301's for $400.00 and a little ways away a decent pair of Pioneer HPM-900's for $40.00 which I also bought BTW.

Pawn shop owners are an odd bunch. My wife and I recently went to a couple to check out what they would offer on a piece of jewelry and they all balked with a some ridiculously low price. We then went to a gold & diamond trader and he gave us over $600, three times more, and in one case six times more, than what the pawn shops were offering.

It just goes to show they don't always know their stuff.
