Best video scaler? Anchor? Silicon? Faroudja?

I'm looking into different bd players and avr's and comparing the prices of top players versus the Oppo I have and wondering why the Denon and Marantz price themselves so high. Oppo uses the Anchor Bay chip, some Denon's use Silicon Optix, so does some of the Onkyo players, Pio bdp-09fd uses the Marvell. My Pio sc-05 av uses Faroudja.
Are there noticeable differences in video quality between the different chips?
I've read on other forums that the Silicon Optix HQV Reon chips are the benchmark and found in higher end models.

Well looks like Silicon Optix sold it's HQV chip to IDT.

ATI and Nvidia make processors too, I don't know if they make a chip for dvd/bd players but they look like real performers.

The ABT 2010 seems to perform the best on test discs currently. Silicon Optix best chip is the Realta, not the Reon, it's more of a budget chip, but works fairly well. Faroudja hasn't been much competition lately. -
Tell you guys the truth,I've seen a few different players with different chips and from what I could tell, very little difference between them. The real noticable difference is viewing a projector with an outboard scaler...then were talking some noticable difference.HT SYSTEM-

I don't think they make chips for consumer electronics. Those are PC graphics cards (oldish chips) in the review, and assuming the firmware is decent would likely win a head-to-head competition. But, that is not really fair as the video cards alone will range from $50 to $250 which is way too expensive to use in an anything other than than ultra-high end players. -

Looking at the score sheet in the link above, I wonder why not even the highest end bluray players from Pioneer, Denon, Marantz don't collaborate with ATI and Nvidia? The latest Denon universal player and Pioneer 09fd players should have carried them. -

Yeah, but would you be able to tell the difference in a 'blind' A/B test???
That is the ONLY way to prove there are differences!

There are some differences I have noticed but the biggest differences I feel is between a stand alone processor and one built into a reciever. Seeing a VP50 vs AVR was a large difference, but there is also a large price tag to pay.
For me I do like the video processing my SC-05 does, but yet there is still some jaggies I can see when it upconverts, and would like to compare it to a Anthem pre sometime to see how much of a difference it would make. -

I have the Pio SC-05 too, it doesn't upconvert signals to 1080p with HDMI. A 1080i signal will get passed through the av untouched. -
correct. I should have noted that I'm using component imputs currently due to my PJ.
