sda-1b crossover question

Ok I recently picked up a set of sda-1b and I'm wanting to upgrade the crossovers. These have some high value caps in them and I'm having a hard time finding the same values. I can stack them up and tie them together but this seems like a lot of big caps on a small board. Looking for suggestions. I was going to go with clarity caps px series from madisound as they seem the most budget friendly. Is there somewhere else I should be looking? Also when stacking caps does it matter about the values as long they add up. I mean like a 34uf would it matter if I went with a 33uf and a 1uf or should I try to get closer to splitting this in half(like 2-17uf). Don't know if they make a 17uf but the best example I could come up with right now. I haven't done anything yet(still thinking about all this). Thanks in advance for your help

Yes, you can "stack" them and often that is the only way to get the values needed. It's better to split the values as evenly as possible.

Your crossover has a 65uF and a 130uF cap. Solen makes those large values.

    Dayton also has large values.

Ok, Thanks Ben for your help also. It seems like I've read somewhere on the forum that dayton and solen didn't work well with the sda's. Is this true? Thats why I was going to go with clarity. I also looked at sonicaps but was out of my price range. So I guess the question now is would it be best to go with the clarity cap or is it ok to use the dayton or solen caps. Which would give me the best sound? I know that is very subjective but was curious what your thoughts were. Thanks again for your help.

I used Daytons on the HF, Solens on the LF and Mills resistors on my 1Bs. With the stock parts I thought mine sounded veiled in the high end and the bass was somewhat muddy. The first thing I did was bypass the polyswitches, this opened up the high end big time, but made the high end edgy and overly bright. I then put a .5 ohm resistor in place of the polyswitches. This smoothed out the high end very nicely. Then I pulled the crossovers and replaced all the caps and resistors. Big improvement, the high end is detailed and clear without being harsh, the mids have more detail, and the bass is much tighter. Most of these guys will tell you to use the Sonicaps and I am sure they are very good, but the Daytons and Solens worked nicely for me right now. Spending the money for the Sonicaps would not have been a good move for me in the marital relations department. My plan right now is to buy a Sonicap or two every now and then, nickel and dime the wife to death, till I have what I need, then try the Sonicaps.

Give me a week or two. I have two pair of nearly new 91uf caps that I upgraded my 1B crossovers with; and there may be a chance that they'll be for sale soon. No problem with 'em; but I'm trying to "cheat" and re-wire the SDA signal more like the 1C so I can use an isolation transformer and monoblocks. If the experiment works, the big caps aren't needed any longer.

    Check out this thread--additional info and photos. I'm thinking that you need 55 + 130, not 65 + 130. (Or in my case, 91 + 91)

Don't rewire them to be like the 1C's. Also the Dayton's would be used on the lows(20uf,40uf).
