Receiver for RTi/CSi Set-Up
Hello,
I recently posted about purchasing some RTi8's and a CSi5. I have just pulled the trigger on that, and am now thinking I should upgrade my receiver to get the most out of what I paid for.
I'm a college student, and my question is, I have read alot about using an amplifier to get the most of your speakers. However, to do this you would need a receiver with a pre-out right?
The only receivers I can seem to find with pre-out's are high-end receivers by the typical brands: Yamaha, Denon, Pioneer, Sony, and Marantz.
However, I have noticed that Harman Kardon 254/354 receivers have pre-outs. While I dont plan on purchasing an amplifier right away, I think this would be a good thing to have but have read that the 254/354 have alot of problems.
On the other hand, I could purchase a Pioneer VSX 1019 for $400, or a Yamaha RX-V665 in the similar price range. However, these receivers do not have pre-outs from what I have read.
What should I do?

Weird, does the Pioneer VSX-1018 have pre-outs? and the VSX-1019 not?_________________________________Onkyo TX-SR805RTi8 | CSi5 | F/XiA6

The Pioneer 1018 and the Yamaha 665 both have pre-outs. Personally if I had the cash, I would grab this Onkyo 805 for under $500.

Yeah, that 805 is a nice receiver...looks awesome and all-business even in that photo...
I'd snatch that over any H/K in a heartbeat if I had the cash right now... -
I wasn't a fan of the Yamaha with polk (RX-V663) to me it sounded very muddy with lack of detail and didn't get what I was looking for until I added amps, which then I sold and got the Pio which was great.
I would say look at Onkyo. Also check out the H/K refurbished on ebay. They have a store that you can pick up some decent AVR's for not so much around 300-400 at most I think and I beleive they have pre-outs. Also check out a place like videogon.com for used gear. You can sometimes find some pretty good deals on there, but you just have to be careful thats all. -
thanks! I just bought it!_________________________________Onkyo TX-SR805RTi8 | CSi5 | F/XiA6

Good deal, JZ. I bought my 605 for just a little more than that I think, and that was on sale.
I just don't care to buy used, but I think you got a good deal on that one. Enjoy! -
Good choice, that 805 will do everything you can ever expect an AVR to do. Always wished I had gotten an 805 instead of my 806, but ehhh. Burr Brown DAC's and a way better amp section than my 806, hell it weighs 50lbs!!

JZ do are those RTi8's or 10's. In your first post you say you bought 8's and in your sig it says you have 10's.
-
No I'm pretty sure my signature says I have RTi8s
