This one hopefully will get some input. Let's just say that the ex ran off with my music, and left me with two outdoor Niles speakers she couldn't pry off the wood. :mad:Like everyone these days, money is a bigger consideration that it used to be, and I'm quite the novice. I have no receiver, amp, speakers, etc. Looking for new or used equipment recommendations that won't set me back too bad for now. Still paying the whole mortgage and squaring up her bills. Any help would be greatly appreciated. My main listening room is about 12x40 or so, tv in the middle of the back wall, etc.

Thanks........let's hear it.

    12 x 40? That's an odd size room.

What type of budget are you looking at?

Welcome! Sorry to hear! There are deals out there to be had...just takes some time and patience...I have been spending the past month putting together a new system. I've seen many guys selling great stuff on here in the short time I've been a member. I know sometimes Ebay can be a little ify buying off there but worth a look. You can find some deals on Audiogon every now and then as well. Also for speakers I would check out Polk Direct on ebay. I just bought my second pair of speakers off there within the past few weeks for 1/3 the price. Great service, definitely recommend them. Good luck with everything!

Welcome aboard. What type of gear did you have in your previous life. A little more info on what you are used to and your general location might help with suggestions.

Ok, 13x30. last and only system was a Pioneer Rack unit. Cost about 1400.00 in 1995 and blasted some sound. Added the Niles outdoor when I moved here.

cbro, sorry to hear about your situation but, due to the lousy economy there are a lot of guys out there willing (or forced) to part with some pretty nice stuff. In addition to this site I'd keep my eye on Craig's List for your area. You never know where that diamond is going to show up.

Hah! Thanks for the plug. ;)

For basic entertainment, i think it would be a good way to go. I've been using that stuff as a backup 2-channel setup for awhile now, and i really like the way it sounds. Yeah, my main setup is quite a bit better, but there's certainly something to be said for the simplicity of this.

If this will end up as a dedicated sit-down and listen 2-channel setup, then pass.
