This topic might not connect with anyone, but I'll give it a try. In my opinion, the best music, the masterpieces, the stuff with legs, is usually (not always of course) music that requires many listens to appreciate. It's like your love affair with the piece slowly builds. I've had CDs that I've considered throwing out in disgust that later became favorites. I don't think I'm alone on this. Something about how the brain processes music. The more familiar you are with a piece, the more pleasure you derive from it. But oddly this is not always true. There's been cases where I want to like something and listen to it over and over again and no appreciation develops.

So any of you want to share a CD that you didn't love on first listen, but later became a fav? Here's my latest. I absolutely love Corrine Bailey Rae's new CD and I was totally luke warm at best on first listen...

I usually know from the first time I listen to an album whether I like it or not. I don't want music to grow on me...I want it to grab me the first time I hear it. If I like the album/song/whatever it will get repeated play...if not...it's back in the rack to maybe just gather dust until there is some compelling reason to bring it out again.

    Spartacus

Hated it when I first heard it. After almost 20 years, it still gets played yearly.

I fiind my musical taste changing as I get older. Some stuff grows on me and others have me wondering what in the world I was thinking to buy such junk.

Finch - Say Hello To Sunshine. It wasn't as accessible as their first LP "What It Is To Burn," and that was the problem for me at the time. After a few listens through, though, it became apparent that this was a much better album in terms of content.

There's a few others, but a big one is Coldplay X+Y. I thought it was total crap the first time i listened to it. I actually enjoy it now. :)

I was looking forward to this Primus album before it came out. When I put it in for the first time I did not like it. After a little while later it grew on me and now i still like it.

I've had MANY similar experiences. Sometimes the first listen blows me away and I think, "wow!" But sometimes, it sneaks up on me. There's two ways for me to get to this point: A.) A quiet evening and a glass of Flor De Ca

    Sade....Soldier of Love

This is her latest cd and at first listen, I thought it was so-so. But I'm liking it more and more now.

This isn't so much an album or song, as it is an artist. I don't know how many alternative fans we have here, but the more I listen to Dave Matthews the more I love his music, his ability to compose, and the solid performance of the band. I got one of his first albums back in high school and didn't care for most of it, eventually giving it away to a friend. Now DMB is one of my favorite groups, and they continue to grow on me. My friend still has my copy of Under the Table and Dreaming though...

I'm in the same boat. I HATED them in high school. Like them a LOT now. Doesn't hurt that the cds are recorded very well, too. :)

There's so many to list. I've purchased hundreds of cd's blind based on record label and what bands group together during tours/album sessions.

A few that comes to mind are...

    Mayhem- Chimera
    Dimmu Borgir- Stormblast
Darkthrone- A Blaze in the Northern Sky

Yeah, Rebecca Pidgeon's Spanish Harlem. I hated it at first but I LOVED the sound. Turned out that it was SACD that I enjoyed so much but I must admit, the song has definitely grown on me. In fact, I think I'll throw it in for a spin now...
