Innocent people are being arrested to generate revenue, and NO-ONE, besides me is outraged:confused:

crap dude I am so outraged on the state of the nation it makes me sick! everyone needs to learn their basic rights and laws and start challenging this conduct and sue for false arrest and harassment. Its is way past time for everyone to take a stand!

I agree. But try and find a lawyer in your city that will go against the police. It's almost impossible. I had a friend that couldn't find one even in nearby cities. He had to drop his search and move on. Unbelieveable huh.

Dude, alot of people,in alot of states, have been pissed off about this practice which btw,is not native to NYC. Only the press is unwilling to report and I suspect that only now,and only in NY,they are reporting this given the current political climate in that state and who they want out of office.

There's several small, one-horse towns down here, that are 'speed trap' towns, that'll do stuff similar to this, but USUALLY, it's somewhat legitimate.

The story implies that these quotas are coming from 1 Police Plaza, but are they really? I can't imagine a politician/ management risking a story like this getting out. I think it's the union, to avoid pink slips. Which I understand, but DEFINITELY don't agree with.

Oye Vey, Joe Stalin reincarnated. This story makes the saying, "The measure of a man's true character is what he would do in any situation where he knows he wouldn't be caught," a moot point.

I grew up in a little corrupt town in NM, the police dept was corrupt as hell, I used to get pulled over on a weekly basis and they would find something, so finally when I could afford a vid camera I got one and under the advise from the best attorney in NM I started taping them every time I got pulled over, they sure as hell did not like that one tried to reach in and grab it. I went back and showed the tape to my attorney and he sent a copy over to the chief and I never got bothered again. just about every time I leave the house I have my vid camera with me because no ones word, besides the police, seems to be creditable these days.
So there are things we can be doing. Anyone ever hear of prepaid legal? you sign on for about 150 and pay like 30 a month and its like always having an attorney on retainer, if you get into any legal ramifications they have to represent you unless someone finds a conflict of interest or something like that. But its great to say I'll let my attorney deal with you and mean it.

There are always 2 sides to a story. And, on the flip-side, what would you think about the job performance of a police officer in NYC who went for months without making any arrests. Just another way to look at it and my .02.

Good point...but does that justify setting up a quota system ? My problem is that the police department is used as a revenue generating entity instead of a criminal catching body. After all, once you catch them, you have to prosecute them, and that costs money, which most states don't have.

Here in Chicago,Cook county to be exact, they recently announced plans to close 2 prisons. That tells me we are either not catching as many,or letting them out earlier to avoid the cost. Strange comming from a county with some of the highest crime stats in the nation. :(

Bleh! I've heard - for most of my life - that the police dept. had a quota system. But now it seems that there's proof.

I have no problems with the police having weapons that equalize or supasses that of the bads guys especially when having to work against drug gangs, homegrown terrorists and the like.

The second video was awesome and very eye opening.
