Cigarettes that is. It's been 5 days now, and the patch is keeping me from going completely batsh1t crazy. It's not a complete substitute, so I started taking Muay Thai last week. Now I have a twice a week reminder of how out of shape I am and why I'm trying to stay OFF the smokes...now I just have to have the will power to see it through to completion.

My God what a painful addiction...I don't think I'll ever touch tobacco again if I can kick this habit again. my "once a blue moon cigar" treats quickly turned into smoking a pack and a half a day again. Hopefully this is the last time.:o

Congrats! although I think you are in for some tough times ahead. Be strong it will pay off in health and $$$ in the long run. Think of all the upgrades you could have if you put your $$ that you would spend on smokes in a jar/account. It was one of the best things I've ever done. it's been 9 yrs!

Best of luck to you. I've never smoked a cigarette in my life and don't plan on it because I have heard so many people say how difficult it is to quit.

I smoked 2 packs of Camels per day for 34 years. Quit 20 years ago and it was the best thing that I could do for my health. By the 3rd day of non-smoking I was so sick from the withdrawel from nicotine, I went to bed and stayed there for 2 days. My wife said that if I could stay off the smokes for 3 months that she would Ok me buying the sport truck that I wanted. I got a '92 GMC Typhoon and had alot of fun with that truck. Sold it in '96 for a Chevy pickup. STAY THE COURSE!

Another ex smoker here. 35 years breathing tar. Best decision ever.

You'll be amazed how quickly you start feeling better. First sign will be in a couple of weeks when that morning cough will go away. Stay strong!!

I quit for neck surgery on Feb. 13th, made it 17 days.:(

One of our cats got very ill, and watching her suffer got to me, we had to put her down Monday. I've been sneaking a couple a day since. Got to get back off them though, success rates for this surgery for smokers is much worse than non-smokers.

Congrats! Not only will you feel better you'll save a lot of money.

I smoked for 10 years and quit cold turkey in September 2007. No patches, drugs, or hypnosis. Just good old fashion will power.

I have not had a single cigarette, cigar, dip or anything with nicotine in it since then. It really wasn't hard, either. What made it easy is making a firm decision within myself that I wasn't going to go back, not even for a taste. Sure, I'd go out to a bar with friends and they'd smoke -- that was hard to deal with, but has gotten easier. Even today I still want a cigarette with a drink but resisting is simple.

The key? Just saying no to the "aww it's just one cigarette," song that your brain will play. No matter what -- RESIST!

    You can do this. :)

Congrats man you can do it. I am over 3 years smoke free. Once you make up your mind to quit its not that bad. The first week was the hardest but then it got easier and easier.

Ive been free of the ciggys for over a year now and its awesome. I tried the cigar thing also and was back smoking like nothing happened before i even realized it. I finally kicked it with chantix.

I still love the smell of ciggarettes and I can smell them a mile away

I quit in a similar way - finally one day just said "this is **** retarded" and stopped cold turkey - but I wasn't smart enough to avoid them when drinking, which led to several relapses before I finally learned.

The problem isn't "I'm drunk I'll just have one", it's the next day having the "Well, I had one last night, one more won't kill me" and that snowballing into a full-blown relapse (same thing happens with diets). You just have to want to quit and then DO it.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

Thanks for the positive vibes all. I'm feeling more than a little bit odd at work, but I'm grinding through it. Muay Thai has really been a positive influence, but it's the boring nights home alone playing the PS3 or watching a good film when the urge kicks in the most. I'm trying to keep myself too busy to miss them much, which has been hard.

I pondered Chantix, but was a bit bothered by the giant suicide warnings on tv, so I chose the patch (again...) Hah, and I hear you on the smell Bruss, GOD they smell good right now.

Hah, and I'll calll it kicked in the butt about 2 months from now jacob :) That being said, I am starting to feel better physically. I've been coughing up some pretty obscene **** in the shower the last couple of days, so I guess you're right Tony! Now it's just staying the course. You hit the nail on the head Demi, can't cheat for ANYTHING, not even one. As much as I want to.

I wore the patch for the first week to help me through the cravings. I chewed on a straw and alot of gum. Buy the end of 2 weeks I relized how much better food tasted and coffee was even better. I now cant stand the smell of cigs. If you really want to quit you can do it.

I quit after over 20 years of smoking in 1991, carrot sticks helped me to get through when I just needed something to have in my hand and "smoke" on. Also know that you are really not giving up anything that is worthwhile, your going to live longer so the government will have to pay you more dough as you collect back your ss plus any other pension benefit be what it may. I seem to recall in the class I went through to quit, there was some figure in thousands of dollars about the clothes and furniture that are damaged/ruined to due cig ashes and hot tips. Now that is a lot dough for audio coin.

ROFL. I've got an ex that could use a good beating. 1/2 kidding :o

Bruss: The FXi's are still rocking the house! I kind of wish I had gone with the 5 instead of the 3 for my center, but the rears sound outstanding. I get nothing but oohs and ahhs when I throw in Dark Knight (or any of my other "showcase" blu-rays), so the masses are appreciative as well :)

I'm sticking the money I would have spent on cigs aside for the rest of the year, and I'll be treating myself to a nice New Years trip if I can stay off the smokes the whole time (which I will.) Want to go see a girl in Costa Rica that I used to have the hots for. I'll be fit and not smelling like smoke by the time I see her; more motivation!

I was thinking about you this morning and I'm sadened to here stress and then grief made you go smoke again. The smoking only raises your pressure. They really DON'T relax your body. Just the opposite. You should try another real sedative like a rib eye, porterhouse, or wine or something. good luck on your further recovery though.
