The &^#&;s nailed me $600 for having a step ladder over 4' long laying up against the wall.
Then the *&##& so and so went around to all my ac outlets with a cheap "Ground Fault" tester and gave me 30 days to fix my issues. I called in certified licensed electricians at a cost of $300 and they properly checked everything out. They installed two metal receptacle covers and certified my building up to code.
OSHA wouldn't take the receipt and statement as proof and I had to go to 2 hearings to straighten it all out.
    GOOD LUCK with the ****.

    That sucks.

Where I worked, I told the management(they surely were not qualified to be) about these crappy safety railing they had in certain areas. They (2 of them) looked at me like a deer in headlights. 5 yrs. later a nice guy tripped and fell easily through one of the sections I told them about.

Now when OSHA was to arrive , this management sent me on the longest deliverys they could find.I thought something will at least be done about the other crappy railing around the company now.

All OSHA did was make sure the one he fell through was resecured with a tighter fitting rail. Also a 2,000.00 fine or more since the management never wanted to be level with me or the other drugies there I asked just played dumb. The other railings to this day are still unsafe in my eyes and wouldn't cost 100.00 or more to fix them all. Poor management and poor OSHA observation of this railing system. Idiots.

Well I wrote about Osha hitting Contractors at Carolina Bch. one yr.

Ladders and extention cords were all over the place laying by the road because of some minor issues.

There rules cost alot of contractors $$$$ to buy new stuff to suit their approval standards. Nobody was fined though .

I thought I deleted it.. here it is, again.;)
OSHA hit all the Contractors at Carolina Beach after a man fell off a roof. He was working on the side on a very windy Saturday. The electric cords that had a nick in them had to be tossed and new ones bought before the return visit in a week. Ladder issues too severe to comly with, so new ladders had to be bought. Saftey harnesses that were more cumbersome to alot of veteran carpenters MADE their job more dagerous they said.

There were ladders ALL Over that beach on the side of the roads. Extention cords too. You had to be hear to believe it. At least no fines were handed out to anybody on there initial visit from what I gathered.

Good luck to your company. They're like the gastapo and DOT. You can't criticize or they'll make it worse for you. it Sucks.

Unfortunately just like all government regulators, they go overboard instilling expensive retrofits and rules. They then start to tweak them but from what I've read, OSHA has been taking a hard line against tweaking rules to better fit the real world work industry.

It's a great idea to have an OSHA but because our politicians are more concerned about loosing votes then using common sense or using people who are in the various industries as consultants, they go with the heavy handed approach and say, "LOOK WHAT I/WE DID!"

My family's lives have tortured by this Zero Tolerance law concerning schools. They've taken the ability of teachers, supverisors, deans and other administrators to deal with incidents on a case by case basis thus causing good kids to get expeled from school, finger printed, mug shots, and feloney charges brought against them for rediculous infractions such as anything that can be constured, by cut and dry law, as a weapon. They don't care about intent, the use of the device or any common sense ideal. "You brought scissors to school to work on a project, eff you little kid, you suspended, then held up to a school board hearing, for expulsion (which happens on every incident) then charged with two fellonies, finger printed, mug shot, then court appearance." "You didn't know that scissors were not allowed in school 8 year old kid, eff you, tough luck."

It's become so bad that the courts are overwhelmed with these idiotic cases of good kids making mistakes that, the schools are now offering to drop the charges IF a certain amount of "community service" is completed. How do they determine community service, you might ask, they've created another department where you appear before a person who reviews the case with the parents, looking at all aspects of the child's past and present behavior and achevements then makes a determination of the amount of hours the child must complete. All this at the expense of the tax payers. After the community service has been completed, another visit to this new department to determine if all has proceded and completed as agreed, if so, the charges are dropped. The parents still have to pay a minimum of $70 to expunge the charges from the child's record i.e. if the parents do the paper work themselves and don't hire a lawyer which then would cost hundreds to have it expunged.

There is a major movement on by educators, school boards, parents, lawyers, and judges to have this Zero Tolerance law reviewed and either abolished or adjusted.

In the mean time the real bad kids, the constant trouble makers don't get much more of a punishment then the dopey kid who didn't know or didn't have the sense to not have in his possesion the many, many items that are deamed "deadly weapons" by this law.

Sorry for the derail Larry . . .

. . . just venting my frustration about another rigid, non-common sense law our government in their infinite attempts at controlling every aspect of our lives have done and caused the disruption of a child's educational process as well as ruining his good clean record. This thread just fueled my fire.

    Rant over!

I've dealt with them, and had pleasant experiences each time.

Must just be the Oregon OSHA.

Well the Feds did allow the various States to mandate their own rules and regulations as long as they didn't vary too much from the original.

I learned a lot taking a 10 hour safety & construction course a few years ago. It's scary how much power these autonomous govt. agencies wield. The EPA is also frightening.
OSHA does have it's place, but yeah, sometimes they have rules that are just NOT applicable in the real world.
Especially when it comes to working on step ladders:rolleyes:
I refuse to argue with idiots, because people can't tell the DIFFERENCE!
