Common Ground Amp question

Forgive my ignorance in advance. I'm considering buying a vintage Paragon HCA-3500 for my blade/blade SDA-SRS's. Paragon advises its vintage HCA-300 amp can be common grounded by connecting the negative leads together. Does that mean connecting a jumper between the negative speaker leads or the AC power ground leads?

Negative speaker binding posts on the amp.

Do you mean a Parasound HCA 3500 dual mono amp? If so, I would check the negative outputs for common ground with a VOM myself before using it with SDA's.

Jess, are you suggesting he should check before he straps the negative terminals? If the manufacturer says it can be strapped he should have no problem with the SRSs, right?

Eh, what I am thinking. Of course, it's non-common ground or you wouldn't have to ask about strapping.

Joe, re-read the original post, he's getting a different model than the model Parasound says can be strapped.

    HCA 3500 vs. HCA 300.

Sorry guys, it was a typo, my bad.I was somewhat blown away when Richard Schram, president of Parasound, responded to the email I sent to parasound technical support. He said he's actually received alot of inquiries from Polk owners about this issue, and was impressed by what a loyal following Polk has.
I'm currently running an NAD 375bee integrated amp which at 150w/channel is causing the thermal protection in my SDA-SRS's to shutdown the tweeters.Didn't hear clipping but it must be present. My goal was to find a new 400-500w/channel amp to insure I had plenty of dynamic headroom. in the 1k range that seemed to leave me with the Parasound 2250 and the Rotel RB-1572:Adcom was rated a little less, and I want to be able to have extra room to spare. I prefer the brawn of a class A/B amp to a D design, so I was focusing in on the parasound when i stumbled onto the HCA 3500, which at 500w/channel into 4 ohms seems to be what I'm looking for.I was nervous about damaging the SRS's ergo my email to parasound.
I dont have the technical knowledge(never picked up a soldering iron in my life) so unfortunately i cant do any work on the crossovers, although since my pair are SRS's and not 1.2's or 1.2TL's, I guess its almost moot.
thanks to everyone for offering their help to the newbie.

A new amp isn't going to solve your problem, your polyswitches are shot and need to be replaced or removed.

F1Nut/HearingImpared: If that is the consensus, is there anyone on the board who performs crossover repair/upgradework for a fee?

    ericks0ns,

To remove your speaker's crossovers requires a number of internal wire connections to be desoldered from the crossover board. Since you say you have never used a solder gun (it's really easy stuff) maybe someone near to you would be willing to help.

F1nut: Well if its realtively easy then I'd be inclined to take a stab at it. I generally try not to maken things worse with my novice skills but what the heck. Are there any threads on the board that take you through the process of how to replace components in a crossover?

Richard is a great guy. I've sent several emails to Parasound over the last year concerning amps and speakers and he has never failed to respond. His openness and willingness to help is one of the reasons I'll be buying another Parasound pre/power combination to drive my new Thiel CS 2.4s.

Yes,there are lots of threads here concerning "how to's" on crossover mods, but if you are indeed a novice perhaps you should contact ben62670. He does crossovers and makes cables, mods equipment etc for members of Club Polk at a very reasonable price.

Esowden: Yes I couldn't agree more. Having a person of upper-level responsibility getting involved on a personal level like that was quite a pleasant surprise.Which Parasound are you leaning towards for your Thiel's?

Hearingimpared:Yes no one doubts my non-existent skills more than me, so I'm more inclined to reach out to someone the Polk Community recommends . Thanks for the advice.

I can do them for you.
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks
