...driving a really well made sports car.
You don't realize how fast you're driving it (loud you're playing them) until the cop pulls you over (neighbor knocks on the door).

LOL... Boobies.
I still have a hard time remembering that my neighbors have different taste in music than I do. I tend to impose my playlist on them without regard. Eesh... I like it LOUD!-Kevin

I like mine very loud and have yet to hear a complaint from any neighbor. -
I live in an old apartment building. The walls are literally brick with plaster over them. Except for doors and windows, I'm pretty well sealed in. They have yet to complain, but I'm sure they have heard me.-Kevin

I think they were Marshall's in the movie. I know that Marshall did make some that went to 11 after it came out.
And the LSiW & PSW1000's both had volume knobs that went to 11.Gallo Ref 3.1 : Bryston 4b SST : Musical fidelity CD Pre : VPI HW-19

Not that my system is the best; but along this idea (the title of the thread), it can be a pain in the butt owning a great/good system. When ever we watch a show or movie, and we see a hand reaching for the doorbell, my wife and I (like in a slow motion looking kind of way) look at each other and on cue....Willow and Rudy go nuts and run up to the main level and to the front door! Never fails. To the point where I sometimes hold my finger over the mute button just in case.

I think the Doobie Brothers are in my living room right now! I am sure the next county thinks so too!
-
I was positioning my dial in relation to a time clock.
My amp starts at 7 in relation, so 11 is getting close to straight up and only on a few recordings do I dare go there or beyond.
I bought a bumper sticker yrs. ago and people always laugh and say it out loud.
To Loud
Too bad
I also have a T shirt that says:
If my music is too loud
Then your too oldMost people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them. -

That happened to me in Austin in '74 or so one Friday night. I'd hitched on down I-35 just to get some relief.
Some great guitar riffs coming out of a church off campus. I walk in and there's these 2 kids that look like brothers, one about 19, the other younger and better- just jamming on the stage. Both had sunburst Fender Strats and maybe some Marshall or Fender stacks, swapping crunchy bluesy riffs- they had no business being that frikken good.
It was the Vaughan brothers. That's who I think they were. -
The same goes for great gear, not just speakers"Appreciation of audio is a completely subjective human experience. Measurements can provide a measure of insight, but are no substitute for human judgment. Why are we looking to reduce a subjective experience to objective criteria anyway? The subtleties of music and audio reproduction are for those who appreciate it. Differentiation by numbers is for those who do not".--Nelson Pass Pass Labs XA25 | EE Avant Pre | EE Mini Max Supreme DAC | MIT Shotgun S1 | Pangea AC14SE MKII | Legend L600 | BlueSound Node 3 - Tubes add soul!

What I get a kick out of, now that I have a moderate near the bottom high end system, is the extraneous sounds on a recording, especially classical. I near hear people moving chairs, stands, instruments, whatever. Or audience coughs, and other sounds not related to the music. Sometimes, these sounds are so out of place my first thought is something is happening outside, and then I realize it is the CD.
Yep, I know what you mean. I've experienced hearing the cloth rubbing sounds from their suits made while violinists and the sort are running their bows over the strings. What really cool is when you can hear the musician playing the wind instruments and such taking breaths in between blows.
It's especially noticable on vinyl & SACD.
Great stuff. Sounds like you are right there. -

Man 1 to Man 2: "So, what do you like to do in your spare time?"
Man 2: "I like to listen to recordings of people breathing, coughing, and rubbing their clothes together very loudly."
