Just finished watching it. Awesome special effects, a real workout for your H/T. I liked it, not tremedously, but enough to add it to the collection if for nothing else a possible demo disc for the H/T. Id give it a 7 out of 10.

Just picked this up today in Blu Ray for $22, can't wait to get my TV back from the shop so I can watch it. Saw it in the theaters and it was pretty good, but can't wait to see how my rig can handle it.

I got it sitting here from Netflix. Over 2 1/2 hours so didn't get around to it tonight with Lost being on. Checkin' it out tomorrow.

Was it a typical human beings suck disaster flick or not?

It was a "typical" end of the world type movie, but I must say Woody's character was a hoot, lol. IMHO, I think The day after tomorrow was better, but this movie was pretty good too. Can't wait to check out the Blu Ray though, the audio should be killer.

This movie was an hour too long. I was able to be entertained, but it was hard to leave the brain at the door on several occasions.

Worth a rental for the audio.

While the audio is fantastic there are many, many other Blu's that are just as good if not better, this film is all about the effects, some really killer CGI in this one. Not as good as Avatar's CGI but most of it was pretty damn impressive.

I was most disappointed with them ignoring the whole Mayan calender angle other than a brief mention. Kind of would have been nice if they would have weaved a time period piece in with present day stuff.

I agree this movie could have been a lot more..... But I must admit that the Audio was spectacular on my system and I did enjoy the movie. Not in the same league with Ironman for example but entertaining. The story line and plot are a little weak but I tend to watch Sci-Fi for special effects, sound and to be entertained. This movie delivered for me and I would give it a solid 3 stars for that reason.

My girlfriend and I saw this at the theater, it was a waste of $20.00.

I would rate this as barely worth a rental..and I mean barely!

Wow Roy....I felt the same way. Except I spent 30 dollars. I was bored to tears with it, it was at least 30 minutes to long. Yes some of the effects were nice, but there is no way I will ever sit through this movie again.

i got up to make some more popcorn and didnt bother to pause it. cgi was fair but scenes were too long and lent a very unrealistic attitude. for a "oohhh scary end of the world " idea it was more like a glorified comic book movie. some decent names in it though. the wifes words at the end were "with that cast you would think one of them would have said something about how fake it was". to me that pretty much sums it up.

While audio is certainly worthwhile, IMO it is not anywhere near enough to justify a movie. Any fool can add booms to a movie. The question is, did the audio enhance the acting, plot, etc? Or was it gratuitous? Was the plot even semi-believable? Was the acting close to being good?

    No...and no......and no.
This movie sucked...acting sucked....plot sucked.......only point of whole movie was the special effects.....save for a demo disc and nothing more.

I saw it last night. From a geologic perspective, completely believable:rolleyes:

The only good thing it was watched via Netflix, so it came out to costing us .95 to watch.

Thanks for the heads up folk! My local "mom and pop" video store loaded up on 2012 (about a dozen copies) and it has been rented out since. Your collective comments suggests that many copies will be on their for sale rack once the hoopla from the initial release dies down.

I'll buy it unwatched for the $10 (the cost of a movie ticket) they ask when moving new release DVDs off of their shelves to make room for more incoming DVDs once the initial rental action dies down. Based upon what everone says here, something tells me that it will for this DVD.

Special effects aside...easily one of the worst movies I ever saw. I'm not even gonna rent it to see how it sounds at home.

I refuse to spend another minute of my life associating with this movie...which is what I just did by responding to this thread...

    Solid "Meh." from me.

3/10. Mindless action flick that was twice as long as it should have been. Decent CG effects, but not near as good as i was hoping.

    Won't watch again. Ever.

I watched it last night and checked out certain scenes this morning. This has got to be one of the ultimate cheesy end of the world/disaster movies. Not only was a single city done in, but multiple ones. Whole continents!

This is not not high drama, but along the genre of how well the disaster special effects are shown (if I am expecting "Gone with the Wind" drama, I don't buy/rent "Volcano"). About the only thing unknown in the movie, if you have watched a few of these, is whether or not the hero will survive to the very end (these types of flicks vary on that outcome). Everything else is pretty well predictable from a plot standpoint.

I thought the special effect scenes and HT sound was pretty awesome. Sufficiently so, that I will probably pick up the BD, if for anything, for HT reference purposes. Something to demo what gear can do when auditioning.

One technical thing not understood about the flick was the lack of menu audio choices. All it had was "English" - not the subvarients that dealt with decoding (5.1, 7.1, THX, etc) issues.

With the stature of the actors involved (including John Cusack and Danny Glover, whether you actually like them or not BTW) and a Director that was behind the 1994 Stargate movie, as well as Independence Day in 1996, I was not expecting this to be so dismally horrendous as it was.

I was surprised to find that I actually enjoyed it, maybe because I was feeling ill and didn't want to have to think too much that night, but this was so bad it is shocking IMO. I'd rate it 2 out of 5, maybe 3. I wouldn't say "don't watch it", but I wouldn't bother to own it. Just leave your brain in another room for safe keeping: it won't be needed.

I know I'm a bit behind on this one, but I just got around to watching it. I can't believe people actually liked this movie. What a steaming pile of dog ****. I like mindless action sometimes, but this one didn't have any redeeming qualities. Not funny. NOt an interesting story. WAY too long, and I only watched HALF before shutting it off. The special effects that you guys are somehow raving about were HORRIBLE, and I didn't even watch it on BluRay where I'm sure the ridiculously cheap-looking effects were even MORE noticeably bad. I only made it halfway through the movie, and in that HALF of the movie, FOUR separate scenes involved some mode of transportation (limo, then prop plane, then RV, then jumbo jet) trying to outrun some sort of natural disaster, being enveloped by said disaster briefly before emerging unscathed. What a load of hacky, uncreative crap.

I give this movie negative two stars. That's two stars less than no stars at all.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.
