Pontiac Sunfire

Hello car folks, I have spent most of my time on the polk home set up board but need some help. My daughter has a 2001 Ponitac Sunfire. The CD player that came with the car has stopped working. When she went to CC to pick out a new head unit she was told that GM has "fixed" it models so that you cannot simply relplace the head. She is actually wanting to add an amp, speakers etc, along with the new head, does this sound right? Something about the wiring with the turn signals, wipers, and such.

Any help would be appreciated.
