Thank you, 'Tool For Life.
I'll probably just do that at this point because the hassle of sending these back, then shopping for more "suitable" speakers that are cheaper, is just going to make things more ridiculous at this point...and I'd probably, with shipping, end up spending the same amount anyway by the time tax and everything is done (unless I went with a real entry-level Polk tower which I don't really want to do).
The 12's arrive at the new house on Thursday. -
Mike, it can be tough to justify spending that amount or even less or sometimes even more. From what I have read in this thread only, you seemed to have received good advice. If you choose to go with the 12s, I'm sure you will be happy, with that said, if you had chosen to go with the 8s , again you would have been happy. The degree of hapiness/ scale which you will use to decide which was better can only be determined by you. I have the 8s with a csi3 as my fronts. I couldn't be happier and I don't see myself ever buying the 12s. Based on the Willow scale of happiness, I'd say I'm at an 8-8.75. If at the time I was buying my 8s, the 12s had fit my budget, I'm sure I would have bought them. Again I have no regrets with the 8s.
Relax, enjoy your 12s and when the time comes, buy yourself an amp, and then you'll sit back and laugh at all the stress you caused yourself. -
Polk direct, their ebay store has the rti a7 for 700 the pair, delivered. Look into that. With the money you save vs the rti12 you can buy a adcom 555 amp for about 300 and make them sing sing sing.
I honestly do not think you will be taking of the full advantage of the 12's and maybe that is why you are hesitating such expense. You will enjoy the a7 which substituted the rti10. When i looked into j&r to buy the 10's it came to the same when you factored shipping in.
You will be happy with the a7, they are not as hungry for power as the 12. I was in your same situation and only can tell you that in your case as in mine you do not feel comfortable spending that much money since a lot of other stuff will present themself for your new house.
Go ahead return the 12 (even thought they are better speakers) get the a7 enjoy them for a long time. I am positive that when you feel the need to upgrade you will add an external amp and that alone will make the a7 like another set of sepakers altogether.
Good luck and congrats on the new house (which is the important thing for you)HT:
