Im currently building my hometheater, however i dont know much about av's other than they are to power your speakers and connect all your gadgets to it. My current speakers are polk cs20, 2x tsi500 , 2x tsi200 and psw505 (still waiting for it! ) my question is whats the one i should get? im thinking of adding an external amp so power is not a problem. Whats the diffrence in this recievers and what should i stick with? I plan to watch blue ray movies a little of music, not much. I also plan to connect it to my Direct Tv. I will use it to watch movies like 85% of the time. Please i need help!

my choices are, yamaha rx-v3900, rx-v3800, rx-v1900 and at last RX-v863
( i want to save the most money i can because i feel i have already spend too much)

I think your best bet is between the RXV-3900 and RXV-3800. The 3900 has all of the little extras you might be able to live without. I'd say you should be happy with either of those Yammies.

I agree, but if you're strapped for cash and the 1900 is cheaper...that would do you. Just don't get the 863!

I didn't look at the 1900 specs, but does it have preouts? Considering he talks about adding a power amp.

Yes, so does the 863! But the 1000 and above series are really Yamaha's best.

It looks to me that the choice is really btn the 1900 and the 3900, and I would base my decision btn the 2 on (1) do you need HDMI passthrough and (2) will you connect the AVR to your computer network (may be hard wire only, not sure a wireless converter will work). If the answer to either question is yes, the go with the 3900. Otherwise take the 1900. I assume they both use DACs and video processor. If the chips in the 3900 are better, that may push me to the 3900 regardless of the answer to the 2 questions above.

Both the 3900 and 1900 have Burr-Brown 192kHz/24-bit DACs for all channels, but the 3900 has Anchor Bay VRS video processing. If you're into HT, you may appreciate the improved video. FWIW, I chose the 3900, and have been very pleased.
