must be formatted in fat i believe and stored in appropriate folder structure.

    The directories should look like:

    /MUSIC
    /PICTURE
    /VIDEO

I heard that FAT would be limited and NTFS would be the right route for this. Still surfing the net for answers .........

PS3 as far as I know will ONLY recognize FAT32. Bruss' answer was exactly the way I understand it as well.

I really don't think Fat32 would be in any way limited. Most USB flash drives are formatted in Fat321 and I"ve never noticed any limitation with them. Just hook it up to your computer an do a fat32 format and then plug it in and see what happens. You got nothing to lose:)

I think once you get a file over 4GB you start having issues.

It is far easier to run ps3MediaServer on a workstation and stream it to the ps3. You can even leave your external plugged in to the workstation with a NTFS formated partition. Not really wireless friendly though.. YMMV

Yeah as far as the formatting and file structure ive never seen it read a external hanging off it any other way.

I think you might be over thinking things. When I plug mine in (for music) go to the music option and find your hard drive... then hit TRIANGLE and select display all... the files should pop up. Same goes with video. Dont just hit X....

    Hope this helps.

@ Grimmace19: what video file format do you have? AVI?

I don't remember the correct link...this player is FREE from GOOGLE....so you can go to Google and find it! I use this as well and it works fine...no trouble with movies over 4 gig stored as ISO files on your hard drive. The important thing for film and video is that your wireless or internet access is FAST enough or else things will stutter!

I've got myself one terabyte waiting for me on my return from the Far East!
