The Olympic Gold medal men's hockey game overshadowed all drama today!

And somehow I found time to watch that too, as well as change my oil, rotate my tires... I come to the forums to relax, but the drama is killing me. I think I need a forum vacation!

Take it easy Bub! The thread from Al was a long time coming and will definitely improve the overall mood of the forum.:)

Listen to some tunes and relax.

I wish I could but my audio room is filled with Christmas decorations setup by my loving wife to be moved to the shed out back. Due to torential down pours in January and the four feet of snow in February, we haven't been able to gain access to the shed. God forbid I move any of the "well ordered" decorations to get to my rig and seating position as my wife would have my head!:(

Four feet of snow shuts you down? In Canada we just get the snowblowers out and the shovels working as an excuse to have another Molson's.

That would work if the following weren't factors; the water table is very high, this causes a lake of water and swap like conditions where when you step on the grass you sink in at least ankle deep in the swamp, it's hard to shovel snow off of the lawn without killing the grass thus producing a muddy/barren lawn when the summer heat and sun dry out the land, it is not feasible for two people to trek 15 yards back and forth to the shed under these conditions.

Don't think I've not tried to come up with solutions such as buying planks of wood and lining the path to the shed as a walkway. Problem is money is very tight and buying planks is not in the cards. There are other work-arounds that I've thought of but they all consist of some kind of expenditure.

I'm jonsing to listen to music but, I have to consider my wife's wishes here so I just bite the bullet and am waiting for the thaw and the drying out period so I can get rid of the obsticles.:(

Not trying to add to it - just lamenting that it seems whichever way I turn, it seems to be the case. No matter, 'cause 90% of my forum time is spent here, and this seems to be the most sensible and strongest forum of them all.

Same here. I've got an old Goldstar(that's LG these days) mini-component system thingy. It was 50 watts per channel, and was compose of FOUR separate components. The speakers were even 3-ways!!

I used to think that stereo was the bees knees. It served it's purpose very well for many years...but I've come to realize that it wasn't really anything special...lol I'd definitely take my current rig over the Goldstar.

Goldstar, LMAO!!! I remember them. All of their components stack atop each other would weigh about 8 ounces!

    I don't know...this things pretty beefy.

It's composed of a tuner, "integrated" amp, tape deck and turntable. All of them stacked on top of each other probably topples the scales at a whopping 18-19 pounds!!! Better call the fork lift! This is some serious gear!!

Add another 3 or so pounds for each of the speakers and you might even need a crane!! These massive beasts have 8", yes, that's right, eight freaking inch wide woofers!!!! Not to mention the 3.5" midranges, and 1.5" super audiophile grade paper cone tweeters.;) It's safe to say that they smoke my SDA's in every feasible area.:p Very solid bass response all the way down to the nether regions of 80hz or so. This will make the deepest of bass simply come to life.

It also has these nifty connections for the power cords that make it so that you can't connect them to anything at all but each other. This makes expanding/improving the system virtually impossible. But, let's be serious now...there really is no improving on the Goldstar mini-component system.

I'm willing to sell it, but for no less than $1200.

Ha ha ha, the best thing about them is they will automatically distort Jimmy Page's guitar riffs.:D Can't get any better than that!;)

Yep. Crank it up until the little bouncing meters are firmly in the red zone, hit the "loudness" button to add that extra mid-bass boost, and let the resulting(terrible) sounds carry you away.:p

In all seriousness though, that little POS was my first real stereo. I've done FAR more listening to music on that thing than I have on my current 2 channel rig. Despite how bad that thing sounded, it provided me with an innumerable amount of enjoyment during my turbulent teenage years. It was LOUD...that was the important thing...lol It also looked a lot more impressive than the boombox/radio things that most of my friends had.

Hey man, back when the dinosaurs were alive in my teens, my rack system sounded great to me. IIRC they put out a whopping 100 wpc. The flashing, dancing lights were pretty too.

Whoopppps I just realized we've severly derailed this thread. . . my apologies to the OP.

It got the job done. The music is, after all, my favorite part of this hobby. Music is music, whether it's on a $10,000 stereo, or a pair of earphones through an ipod.

I don't know that there was really much to this thread to derail in the first place...lol...but good point.
