I'm buying a pr. of older Fostex speakers in the morn.
There's not much info on the net about these at all.
Does anybody know anything about these?

I bought them and one word describes their sound... Detailed .
Another lucky find for me.
I do have to glue the one back cabinet board to keep it from rattling with bass thumps. Any suggestions besides Gorrilla glue.?Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them. -
I OPENED THE ONE CABINET TO REGLUE the back panel AND ON THE WOOFER IT SAYS ..
XTR 6CS coincident driver...
There's also a price sticker from K-40 Electronics saying 15000.
So this leads me to believe they're not original drivers and that maybe somebody spent some big bucks on the replacements..I doubt they were 15.00..because they do sound great!
Could be 150.00 pr. or apiece..who knows. Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them. -
Sounds like a score to me!ProJect Perspective II Turntable & Benz Micro Ace

I was just thinking this tag could be a part # to. But it really looks like a price sticker. Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them.

After going out to put the stuffing back in and remount the woofer I do see a $ sign in front of the 15000. There was also a phone # for K-40 Electronics that didn't connect to anybody. Well, putting the woofer back in the hole I saw a slight indentation where the original woofer made its mark. So these ARE replacements like I thought.
That above being what it is, the now non-rattleing inclosure of the one box has made listening to these quite an experience. The sound is remarkably clean and full range sounding. Awsome..
I'm one happy guy.:D
P.S. the pictures the other guy put on the web asking for info, ARE THESE SPEAKERS..Small world!!
The woodgrain is an exact match to mine..;)Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them. -

I just got a pair of Fostex RP60's. However, the driver is the same as the RM765 professional monitor. So far as I can tell, the only difference is that the pro monitors had a matte-black finish while the RP60 is teak veneer. Whether the difference between a dome tweeter and horn tweeter in the two examples of the RP60 is technological or economic, I don't know.
The RP refers to Fostex Regulated Phase technology, developed for microphones, headphones and loudspeaker drivers. -
Ok, I looked it up; you have an ORION XTR 6CS driver in there, with polypropylene woofer and cloth tweeter dome, circa 1994. It looks like a good design, but I'm more a paper cone fanatic.
The set I got were described as NOS and came in the original packaging, including plastic wrappers; and coincidently they were shipped from Norwalk, California, the same place Fostex USA was located at one time.
They got here last Friday and I'm still recovering from the AES convention over the week-end. They are set on top of some Tannoy SGM10 monitors, so all I have to do is swap plugs tomorrow. There'll probably be some break-in time; they really are NOS and the "tarred" cloth surround is still sticky. Since not much is online about these I'll try and post a report. I saw another set on sale for about the same ~$250 price. We'll see if they're worth twice that.
The first intent is to match timbre with the Tannoys to build a surround array. I also got a pair of P.Audio BM-10CXA co-axial drivers to experiment with; they're the closest I could find as a Tannoy clone, so we'll see.
As much as we'd not think so, some info can be hard to find, so I post a few details. My application is toward production monitoring, and people tend to distinguish hi-fi and production monitors; I think it has more to do with individual perception and expectation. -
It might not seem fair to compare $200 6" speakers against $4k Manley ML-10's (with Tannoy SGM-10" drivers and Mastering Lab cross-overs), but they're both co-axials so it is a sort of objective comparison.
Initial reaction after a few hours: The smaller woofer pushes less air and gives less loudness per watt; and less low frequency extension can get a little 'boxy' at times, but the roll-off is pretty smooth, and a sub-woofer might fix it. The Field knob switched to 4 PI (free-standing) versus 2 PI (soffit-mounted) frees up the bottom end and opens up the sound a lot.
The high end seems to slightly lack some clarity. I should look inside and see if there are some electrolytic capacitors that could be replaced, and possibly bypass the Field switch and the High -12 to +2dB knob circuit.
Otherwise, they have the coherent sound I associate with a dual-concentric speaker, with good imaging. And the timbre of the Fostex's seems to match close enough for them to serve as a modest set of satellites in a surround array along with the Manley's; a worthy little sibling. The application could vary by user: an A or B pair, or a nearfield mix monitor... the sound is in the ears of the beholder -
Thank you Fractile..very much.
I now have a name for my woofers and I'll write it on their magnets asap.
I know these were aftermarket but they do seal the opening and the bass response is pretty darn good with the port below them. They throw a big soundfield around them kind of like the OHM walsh's did.
I feel these are special speakers indeed.
One day I'll put them to use respectively. Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them.
