I purchased a Marantz sr6001 and I am wondering instead of paying $50.00 plus shipping for the Audyssey microphone. Could I use any home theater microphone? Thanks for your help. I love my Polks!

The microphone didn't come with it? My SR5003 came with it in the box.
Edit: Or was the receiver bought used? -
No I bought it new . It is an optional item in the owners manual. OPTIONAL? If that is a feature of the receiver...Marantz should have provided a calibration microphone! That just does not sound right.
I've always wondered whether or not other mics are compatible....I know that within a manufacturers series they often are...but between manufacturers I'm not so sure...probably not? Maybe someone knows more about this?

I'd give it a shot with a different mic and see if your eyes like it.
Edit: Eyes = Ears in case you were wondering why my post made no sense. -

I've heard different opinions on this one. If memory serves, it is best to use the mic made for the Marantz. I think different spec mics are used for different manufacturers. I had that question a while back when I was wondering if my neighbor could use my Marantz mic for his Onkyo. I believe what I'm telling you about the mic actually came from Audyssey's site. As for the mic being optional: Back when I got a SR6001, it didn't come with a mic either, but my SR6003 did. I hope that helps:DSony 40" LCD

Thanks R-shark,
That's what I thought...but I'm still surprised that a company like Marantz would NOT supply a set up mic....of course that is an OLD unit?

I see that Denon had Audyssey microphones and they can be had for cheap on Ebay new. Rallyshark I was wondering why you upgraded to the sr6003? Was there a whole lot of difference in features from the sr6001? I paid $450.00 for a new sr6001 a month ago and I thought I was getting alot for that price.Thank you everyone for all your help. If you're still interested in obtaining an Audyssey mic, shoot me a PM. I'd probably sell you mine. I don't use it anymore.
