LSI9's in the house
Well someone shipped me some LSI9's. The whole speakers for me to do the XO upgrade. Well some sonicaps and some Dayton's and here they are. The imaging is great. Center stage is real strong with a little toe in. I just wish I new who sent them to me. I have a name, but no number or email to get a hold of him. I guess I'll just have to burn them in till he contacts me.

I have a pair of lsi 9's that's been in my closet for over a year and the only reason I'm holding onto them is to see if there's a difference between the stock and modded pair. Stock I feel there's something missing.
Is the mod expensive?
Does the mod widen the soundstage?
Thanks -
Well I mean I know where they can find a good home with me, so you can just send them to me and I'll make sure they are alright. haha

Under $400 for everything.
Edit:The problem is lots of people send me stuff and don't included their screen name. This particular fellow's email is filtered so the email only accepts email from people in his address book. It's fine by me to run them for a while, but I think he would rather have them.

Hiding a pair of LSIs? Ok we're going to have to take away your POLK card for that!
Ha, ha...I'm sure Ben's upgrades are worth whatever the price is.
The next time I visit my good friend in the Atlanta area I hope to stop in and see you Ben.....I'll be bringing down an original Adcom 555 power amp...and hoping you'll give it a once over for me? There is NOTHING wrong with it that I can tell. But it helps to have an expert opinion!
Keep up the good work!

Tell you what my little Adcom 545 drives these puppies no problem at all.Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. I drove LSi9's with an Adcom 535L for a little while. They had no problem driving them except for at really lowed levels where the clipping LED's would start to flicker. I moved to a more powerful Rotel amp but the Adcom could have sufficed.
I am intrigued by the LSi9 mod. I love my nine's and would spend the money modding them if I thought it was really a benefit. I read the 2 threads on the mod but there has only been a few people that have done this mod that have commented on the difference. One of them said that it didn't improve the sound that much. So I am still on the fence on whether or not to spend the money on something that could result in only a marginal improvement.
I would ask whoever gets their 9's modded to please respond either here or on one of these two threads...

I never even came close to having a problem driving my LSi's with my former Adcom 545. They are a good match, have great synergy and I never ever felt they were underpowered or lacking in bass.

I just picked up a pair of Lsi9's yesterday. I paired them with my Luxman M-117 amp and TP-117 pre amp. They sound just like my Lsi 25's without the deep bass of the powered sub. They have good base for bookself speakers. It may be the best bookself speaker ever made by Polk. Does anyone else think Polk has made a better bookself speakers. The only other one that may be better from what I heard is the SDA CRS+. It has a wider soundstage and with RDO's is terrific but the tweets of the Lsi series I feel are the best Polk has ever made. You could make an arguement for both speakers. I am glad I am lucky to have both. I would love to hear a pair of modded Lsi9's.Polk HT system 1: LSIC, LSI25 mains, LSI F/X rears, Lsi F/X rear centers,

Personally I think the 9's are very good. I had a pair but got rid of them partly because of the very pronounced mid-bass hump they produce. As I understand it, the x-over mod fixes that a bit.
For a larger listening room I'd choose the 9's for a smaller listening room I'd choose my modded 5B's w/rdo's. The 5B's continue to amaze me everytime I listen to them on my office rig. There is something so natural and right about them and they have such great, tight, accurate bass. They are too small to get any kind of big thump in a larger room though.
CRS's would be right up there as well. RT35i are supposed to be nice. I've sort of been looking for a good deal on a pair to try them out in the office rig vs. the 5B's.
