Okay, so here's the deal. I sold my Mitsubishi 62" DLP upstairs cause the wife and I would like something a little smaller for the upstairs rig. She wants something that can be hung on the wall so she can place her 75 gallon fish tank below it. So far from what I've seen I really like the 47" Vizio 1080P LCD with the 240hz refresh rate which can be had for roughly $1100. For a couple hundred more I can snag the same 47" Vizio with LED technology but was really hoping not to spend more than $1200 tops out the door. What other TV's would you guys suggest looking at in that size and price range? So far the Vizio's seem like the best bang for the buck.

I got my Samsung 46B6000 for $1299....I know you want no more than 1200 out the door. I only wanted to spend $700 LOL, but they had nothing in stock. I think I'm going to bite on the Sharp since it's such a sweet deal.

+2 on the Panasonic. Be careful hanging the TV over the fish tank though. I have the same situation in my bedroom and am waiting for the fish to croak so I can move the aquarium and put in another plasma. The humidity rising out of the tank can do bad things to electronics.

Unless you have really bright ambient light that cannot be controlled (pulling the blinds), then Plasma will give you a better picture in almost every situation. You could get either a 50" Panny G10/G15 plasma or a 50" Samsung B650 both for around $1200. If you watch at off angles (even more than 15 degress), then plasma is superior. Also plasma (especially Pannys) are best for fast motion. Even with the 120/240Hz gimmics from the LCD companies, plasma (at 600MHz) is better.

Panasonic all the way, I am curious if there is a potential humidity issue with the idea of a fish tank below a hot running plasma? Just curious if anyone may have an opinion. I know that getting opinions around here can be difficult eh!

I wouldn't be worried about the heat the plasma may give off, since heat rises...

But possibly depending on the normal water temp of the tank? I've never had fish, i don't know what a normal temperature would be.

Seems for the most part everyone likes the Panny Plasma. My boy will have his XBOX hooked up to this TV as well so I know back in the day plasmas had problems with image burn in, is this still a concern with the plasmas or has this been pretty much resolved? When I took my wife out tonight looking she really liked the 46" Samsung LED, the really thin one, said she didn't want it to stick out from the wall all that much.

Image burn in has never been a problem on mine and I have the bottom of the line 50" Panasonic, although I'll be getting a G10/G15 sometime soon. I understand she wants it closer to the wall, but is a couple inches really that big of a deal? I know, I know...to a woman a couple inches might a really big deal. How much light do you have in your room and how wide of a viewing angle do you need? The plasma's don't like a lot of direct light because of the glare factor, but they do have a huge viewing angle when compared to LCD.

47 is going to be to small. You should really go with a Panasonic 54 or 58 inch plasma. They are priced very well and you probably will come close to your budget. Panasonic is a much better tv then Vizio , which on a side note I think are very nice for the money.

I just did the BB side by side with this and the G10 (which I have). Spec's are nearly identical, exact same price. This one has no reviews. Maybe a newer model than the G10?

I think this one is the new version of the G10/15

    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Panasonic+-+VIERA+/+50%22+Class+/+1080p+/+600Hz+/+Plasma+HDTV/9788953.p?id=1218175321979&skuId=9788953

I would try to find the G10/15 if you could find it somewhere because it will be cheaper than this years version probably and will be just as good most likely.

I could never go from 62 to 47! It would just seem like a downgrade. I just bought a 50" LG plasma for $585. At 12' to 14', it's pretty hard to tell 720p from 1080. Besides, it's the only TV in the room - nothing to compare it to! That, and my wife and kids don't know the difference anyhow! And, I still had plenty left over for other toys. :)

In order to get the best bang for the buck, you should do some research by reading the expert reviews for various brands of televisions while comparing their respective LCD TV ratings as well. Just saying.

Burn in has got better but you never know with kids and games. I'd skip the plasma and go with a LCD. A piece of mind goes a long way.

Another vote for a Panny plasma. My parents have the 54S1 model and couldn't be happier. My younger brother plays his PS3 on it with no problems. No image burn in whatsoever. It looks GORGEOUS. I highly suggest looking at some of the AV forums for more information. There is a recommended "burn in" time for plasma's (about 100 hours) before you start really tweaking the settings and playing games. I recommend going with a 54 if you can swing it. The extra 3" makes a noticeable difference.
