To run the diagnostics, there should be an option when you press F12 for the boot menu during the POST.

I'm using the disc I got with it from Dell via a usb powered disc drive.

What I'm about to propose is a very, very remote possibility so use this information as you see fit.

I have seen a Windows install freeze like that on a laptop using an external cdrom drive powered by USB only. If it's available, try using another external dvd/cd drive that is powered by an ac adapter.

    Good luck

Have you tried to install from a usb thumbdrive instead? I hear that works well. In fact Dell has Ubuntu and XP on thumbdrives to ship to people without optical disc drives. You have to request it from technical support. I'm not sure if the XP thumbdrive is still in stock or not, I couldn't find it in the system.

I had this same problem and did some research.

You need to restore your pc hardware and bios settings back to factory defaults.

This means disconnectiong any extra hard drives you might have installed and also deactivating same in bios.

This means reducing RAM back to original amounts and setting that in the Bios. On many you can't reinstall when ram is over 3gb. After reinstall you can go back and add back in your HD and ram again with no issue.

After I disconnected my HD and reduced the RAM I was by the 33 minute hangup.

This was my experience and YMMV.

His netbook can't even support over 2gb, so the 3gb limit on windows install isn't an issue (there's also a switch on install you can use to bypass this anyways).

As far as changing stuff back to stock, there isn't much you can change on a mini9 that will cause his issue.

I talked to dell yesterday...they said to send it in as it sounds like a hardware problem.

they just replaced the hard drive with an imaged one.
