Wiring Two LC80is together and Receiver question.

I have another question. My thought was to wire two LC80is through only one of the crossovers that are included with the speakers. The reason is two fold: one, the crossovers are damaged and I'm going to have to repair/replace them; and two, it seems a waste to have the signal split once to each speaker then again twice to each component driver. Is my logic flawed? I intend to wire the raw woofers and tweeters in series before terminating at the passive crossover. If the speakers are rated at 4 ohms individual, wouldn't my proposed set up make it 8 ohms?
Also, I will be using a Polk RTSC for my center, can most receivers handle this impedance load (4ohms)? All the specs I've seen only list 8ohms. I have a Pioneer 1014tx right now and I'm looking to upgrade soon. The two receivers I have narrowed it down between are the Pioneer Elite VSX-21TXH and the Onkyo TX-SR707. I did read in another forum I found through google that the Pioneer Elite should handle it okay. Does anyone have any experience with these models?
