I am currently almost done with my HT set-up but have a question. My AVR is rated 265 wpc @ 4ohms. Would I see any difference if I add a Adcom GFA-555 that is rated @ 350 wpc @ 4ohms?

Front speakers are LSi15s...

Thanks,

Your receiver is usually rated with 2 channels driven or with some other constraints. Most of the good amps are rated with all channels driven.

When you add an amp, you remove the load/strain from receiver amps (so the center and surrounds will get more juice). At the same time, you give true rated amp power to the mains.

That amp is a great choice.

Besides a bit more head room I doubt it will be a difference that you could tell at reasonable listening levels.

If it's 265 watts continuous at 4 ohm that is pretty beefy. Even my Adcom 5503 at ~350w/4 ohm is most likely over kill. But I never let that stop me before.

Remember for a 3db gain in output you have to double your amplifier power.

265 watts into 4 ohm is pretty good for an AVR. I don't think it will be any louder but you might get better sound out of the seperate amp. Though you might hear no difference.

Though I prefer to use seperate amp/preamp setups.

The Adcom GFR-700 HT receiver is an excellent unit. I'd say hold off on the external amp until you have some seat time with the GFR-700. It's a powerhouse receiver and you may find it does fine w/o external amplification. If not, then add an amp to run your fronts and let the receiver run the rest.

I agree with Heiney - the GFP700 will be able to hold it's own just fine....but the triple nickel is a great amp and if you get it, you'll end up having it forever! Those things are rock solid!

I agree heiney9 is right. And KASR is also on the mark.

Among other things I have an Adcom 555 and those things can handle 'almost' anything and last forever...they're almost military grade!
