Looking for a subwoofer

The wife gave me permission to buy a new sub, so I've been looking at a couple different ones. My current set-up is:

Receiver: SR6001
VM30's = front L/R
VM20 = Center
RM6751 x4 = surround sounds

The room that the sub is going into is 19x20, but we have the HT spil into a section of that (probably 11x20). There's no wall dividing it into two rooms, just our sectional.

My budget is $600 and the subs I'm looking at are:

Polk Audio DSW Pro 600: http://signature.crutchfield.com/s_107DSWP600/Polk-Audio-DSW-PRO-600.html?tp=187

Velodyne DLS4000R: http://signature.crutchfield.com/s_2324000RB/Velodyne-DLS-4000R.html?tp=187

Martin Logan: http://www.amazon.com/MartinLogan-DYNBLD-Dynamo-10-Inch-Subwoofer/dp/B000FIJA6W/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

Polk Audio PSW505: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882290130

Would one sub be enough for this room or should I look into getting two? I'm willing to look at other brands. My current Kenwood sub isn't cutting it right now.

Thanks for your help.

Used Epik Sentinal, there are a couple on the market(check audiogon, avs forums). ED A3-300 and SVS PB-12nsd would be my other recomendations. If your not opposed to DIY there are a few more options that would be even better performers.

If you can spend a bit more, take a look at the new Epik Empire sub, priced for now at $799 plus shipping. 2 15" drivers, sealed construction with a 600 watt amp.

From the "Audio Deals of the Day" thread:
    Fry's Dallas Morning News ad.

    DSW PRO 400 $249
    DSW PRO 500 $299
    DSW PRO 600 $349

    Dual 12" Ported Subwoofer Enclosure (DB1222) $149

I happen to be partial to SVS, but these are great prices if you're near a Fry's.

This will be quite the sub and perform well. If I were buying, I would definitely entertain the Epik or SVS.

A sub with 2 x 15" inch drivers and 600 watts will give you a lot of HT wallop but don't EXPECT 'music' to sound clean on that monster!!

I'll be using it primarily for HT (movies and video games). I wish I lived closer to a Fry's as their prices are great.

    http://www.frys.com/category/Outpost/Audio/Home+Audio+&+Speakers/Audio+Speakers/Individual+Speakers/Powered+Subwoofers/

I have a son and two dogs, so I think a down firing sub might be my best bet. The DSW 600 at $499 is looking pretty good.

Where's a good place to buy SVS subs?

I think it's down to the PB12-NSD and DSW Pro 600. The PB12 is $660 shipped and the DSW Pro is $518. Question is, is the SVS worth the extra $140? The specs seem to be better, but will I notice that much of a difference. Will one sound better with my current speakers?

Why not, it's sealed, in a fairly small box for that configuration with efficient drivers and a tried and true design. Yes, it's high output, but the reason Epik went with a dual sealed 15 was to eek out even tighter, more resolved bass. It's not a Submersive, but for less than half the cost, it's certainly got to be considered.

    Combo rig:

Onkyo NR1007 pre-pro, Carver TFM 45(fronts), Carver TFM 35 (surrounds)
    SDA 1C, CS400i, SDA 2B
    PB13Ultra RO
    BW Silvers
    Oppo BDP-83SE

The wife took a look at the SVS website and told me she like the cylinder sub better. I like the smaller footprint of the PC12-NSD as well.

The AV123 MFW15 will blow all those away and is beating subs in the $3000 to $5000 price range. It beat the SVS PB12 Ultra in music and movies.

Sure, if you want to buy from a company that literally is circling the toilet in multiple litigations involving hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Besides he already ordered the SVS.

I bet you it won't be the SVS when it's plugged in. I can promise you, should the SVS fail in any form or fashion it will be taken care of also. Nothing against the MFW when it works, but there are so many angry customers out there I don't even bother to consider product from them.

Edit: Excellent choice on the sub OP, enjoy. Make sure you get it dialed in though.

I did a quick google search on MFW and I'm glad I went with SVS. Jack was able to answer all of my questions promptly and didn't try to upsell me, which made me like them even more. I should have it next week, so I'll post my impressions after it's set-up. All I know is, it's going to blow my Kenwood 1050sw out of the water.

Hook it up via LFE with a subwoofer cable and be sure to try it in as many different positions as possible. Run the auto calibration program on your AVR (if it has one) and you should be just fine. Good luck and congrats on the new toy.

Well, I unpacked the subwoofer last night and it's as big as I thought I would be. I hooked it up via a subwoofer cable and ran the auto-speaker set-up on the receiver. I was going to play around with it more, but my wife told me that if I woke our 6 month old son that I would have to put him back to bed. Instead of playing around with it, I spent the evening re-arranging our basement, bc the wife didn't like the audio stand in the middle of the wall (I moved the stand so the subwoofer could go in the corner of the room). I'm planning on watching a movie or playing xbox tonight, so I'll test her out then.
